I don't understand why people get upset about "scalping". Prices are just prices. Nobody is getting a 9800X3D today for 450. You can be disappointed that there isn't more supply or less demand. You can be happy that someone is willing to sell you one in the future for a lower price if you are not in a hurry. But the price for "9800X3D tomorrow" is just what it is. It's something people *discover* by varying the prices and doing deals and it depends on supply and demand and neither buyer nor seller can do much about it.

Because when greedy companies see people are willing to pay more it pushes up pricing for everyone.

But scalpers do cause there to be less supply (available at RRP).

These people just buy supply that should be available to the consumer, to price it higher and sell it on to the consumer...

I think being upset at them is valid.

Still less stuttering and better absolute minimums on the Intel. Why is that? Or was it possibly because the runs were not identical.

I was going to prod you for directly quoting 1080p low performance as a reason to buy. But I saw something much more funny.

Techspot and Toms didn't do 1080p low, they did 1080p Ultra, a graphics setting people would upscale from.

Your 7700X can already do well over 60fps in 1% lows if you play Starfield in Ultra instead of Low :p

So can everything else that's decent but still, important details are hidden when you test at settings that are unrealistic.
Something doesn’t add up in your comment, unless I’ve missed something. If GamerNexus is testing on 1080p low, you would have thought the other CPUs wouldn’t struggle in games like Starfield. But they do, the 1% lows are below 60.

Turning up to the Ultra preset isn’t going to magically improve the framerate.

I tried Starfield a while ago, it’s very heavy on the CPU, my 7700X was dipping a bit below 60 in some scenes, regardless of settings (maxing out all 8 cores sometimes, which I’ve never seen in any other game). Don’t know if they ever improved the framerate in busy scenes, but it was definitely still playable.

Based on those screenshots, I’d say that the GamerNexus testing was more thorough / intensive.

Back to my other point, the 9800X3D seems to be the only CPU capable of a consistent 60 FPS in Homeworld 3.

"greedy" -- I'm not sure you can blame someone for selling a thing they own at the market value just because it's a CPU. People generally sell their houses at market value, not cost + markup.
"scalpers do cause there to be less supply" -- not really because they don't want to sit on stock forever. Someone *is* getting a CPU, just not you. If they reduced the price, it likely still wouldn't be you getting it because it would sell out instantly.
"sounds like you can get it at £450" -- I think you missed that I said "today".
"pushes up pricing for everyone" -- I don't think so; prices were already high, it's just no-one knew it until everything sold out at the lower price. Ok some people got it at the lower price but it's basically a lottery (I think auction and lottery are the only two possible ways to distribute things).

I feel bad for going off-topic. To try to fix that, here's MLID on 9800X3D availability telling us it's our fault for living on an Island:
. I promise to stop going on about this now.

Regarding the 1080P thing, I was surprised that at 1440P with good settings, my 4080 Super is sitting at 50% usage in MS Flight Simulator over New York with a 5900X. So I'm expecting big things. The 1080P tests are definitely useful.

7800X3D for £300 wen? Been hearing that the prices will probably come down a lot over 6-12 months.

I got one in a sale for £308 inc delivery back in July and they were £299 in some retailers back in June. They were about £320 for a long time as well prior to Zen 5 receiving lukewarm reviews. The prices of 7800X3D are high because retailers are price gouging. If people decided they would wait to save a whopping £8 - £20 because £300 was their max, well that’s on them.

The 7800X3D prices will normalise as 9809X3D stock availability increases.

Meh. Doing some research for my dad. He wants a new system, but keeps changing his mind.

He doesn’t like the design of AM5 CPUs, he thinks the IHS design is bad.

Me, I’ll be waiting to see how Zen 6 turns out.
