The 9800x3d has an igpu?

AMD decided they were missing out on commercial sales where they almost never buy a gpu so now basically everything has 2 CU. Doesn't seem to hurt performance sooo...

I'm somewhat surprised at this comment given the registration date of your account.

If a review is to showcase the difference between different offerings in one part of the system, why would you limit the range of performance of that part through another component?

Clearly he's not after a benchmark review but a gaming review for this cpu pitched for gaming. In a gaming review you use the same parts and run the same games but use big boy graphics settings because 1080p low isn't likely to be what a gaming user will run. A benchmark score chaser absolutely would buy one to run at 1080p low.

I've always liked iGPU cos I can hand it down to my parents when it has lived through its gamer-CPU lifetime.

I have a Ryzen 3600 which I have no use for now.

Thanks, that's great! Comfortably above 120 fps, it's actually so much better than the ADL/5K 3D gen, which themselves were quite good performers. For me it's a throwback to this test I did on my i7 6800K (but will add R5 7600 results soon; didn't manage to snag a 9800X3D so it will do for now):

I’ll try to grab a video walking round that area soon
And tag you in when it’s done.

I agree, by all means show us how much headroom we have with future proofing*. But show us some real world scenarios in gaming now, using settings we actually use. The problem is this approach shows us 4K gamers that for the most part we are wasting our money.

There are cases where CPUs matter even at 4k max in gaming though. MSFS showed a big improvement at 4K.

*Future proofing, that age old tech nerd phrase that was purely invented as an excuse to buy the fastest hardware for the stupidest money. The irony is the same people use the phrase every gen when they upgrade. “Ooh but this means I won’t need to upgrade for years because I’m future proofed”.

Have a look at this video at 24mins 18secs onward...
15:16 and 16:07 When he drops Warzone to 1440p he says there is CPU bottlenecking because the GPU utilisation drops. The CPU utilisation is around 70% and the other cores between 30% and 70% (mostly in the middle of those two numbers). Is it true that that is a bottleneck? To me a bottleneck would be the CPU running at near 100%.

Pitty it’s vapourware and not available, they definitely under estimated demand

Anyone ‘seriously’ following and excited for this release had no issue getting in on the first / second batches… pending emergencies and inescapable work scenarios.

We all had over a week’s notice and knew it was going live around 2pm.

I didn't. I thought it was releasing on Saturday xD (and yes, mine is ordered.)

"greedy" -- I'm not sure you can blame someone for selling a thing they own at the market value just because it's a CPU. People generally sell their houses at market value, not cost + markup.
"scalpers do cause there to be less supply" -- not really because they don't want to sit on stock forever. Someone *is* getting a CPU, just not you. If they reduced the price, it likely still wouldn't be you getting it because it would sell out instantly.
"sounds like you can get it at £450" -- I think you missed that I said "today".
"pushes up pricing for everyone" -- I don't think so; prices were already high, it's just no-one knew it until everything sold out at the lower price. Ok some people got it at the lower price but it's basically a lottery (I think auction and lottery are the only two possible ways to distribute things).

I feel bad for going off-topic. To try to fix that, here's MLID on 9800X3D availability telling us it's our fault for living on an Island:
. I promise to stop going on about this now.

Regarding the 1080P thing, I was surprised that at 1440P with good settings, my 4080 Super is sitting at 50% usage in MS Flight Simulator over New York with a 5900X. So I'm expecting big things. The 1080P tests are definitely useful.
Many in the US think the UK is London, that's it. Know where else exists. Looks like Tom is on that list

did we know it was 2pm? I did all my research and review watching in the morning and decided to pull the trigger. I had a day off so guess I got lucky

@LtMatt done any smt off benching yet? Curious to see if .1 and 1% lows are better even at the expense of max fps.
I tested two games with Turbo mode on which disables SMT. Cyberpunk and Far Cry 6, both running 1080P low settings. Cyberpunk showed a slight performance regression with Turbo mode on which surprised me. However, I think the issue might be that the FPS are so high, and so is CPU utilisation, so taking away those 8 threads hurts more than it helps. Retesting a CPU bound scenario where the average FPS are lower, as typically shown in. Tech reviews, might paint it in a more positive light. Far Cry 6 was showing a nice improvement with Turbo mode on the 9950X and the 9800X3D. I’ll try to share some actual numbers soon, but currently whenever I launch Far Cry 6 it says unable to activate game. If I can resolve, I’ll share more data.
