Early season lesson today.... Always just go for a tidy up/check up before season starts proper.

glad I did...

A few bad habits sneaking back into my swing so got some stuff to work on.

Mainly I'm getting to close to the ball again... I have a tendance to get "on top of it" - so he wants me to setup to what feels "normal" to me, and then as part of my pre-shot routine.... move back about 1 or 2 inches. Currently feels like I'm on my toes a bit and "reaching" for the ball but gives me way more room to be less "over the top"

It's interesting watching Ludvig's setup he kind of does the opposite of this, i.e. gets in position with the hands close and then moves the hands and club out before committing, I guess that would mitigate any feeling of being off balance as he's not changing his lower body position.

I tried it that way previously and it was shank-a-rama but it worked better for me doing it your way that your instructor has shown

18 holes this morning -just keeping things moving so nothing too exciting.

Swing was a bit rusty - but just knocking around with a mate and have a chat.

2 more birdies to add to the 50 birdie challenge for the year - that's 10 already.

However, playing the short course at the moment so whilst 20% done already - things will only get harder from here as we go back to the bigger course.

Still feeling uncomfortable over the ball being a bit further away - but will keep working on it.

Got a chance to try out and get fitted for the latest srixon irons yesterday on trackman (I've owned a set of custom fit z545 irons since 2016)

The Zxi5's look absolutely great and I could easily game the Zxi4's too. I'm just recovering from another injury though (this time my back) so I wasn't in a hurry to commit to any purchase. I think I'll get a couple more brand-agnostic fittings done before Easter and make a decision then.

I felt my 545s held their own against the latest models, ball speed, efficiency and launch were right up there although I seemed to be having issues with low spin with pretty much everything I hit (including my own), pretty weird

Shortly after getting up this morning the power went out so ended up going to AG for a driver fitting, as you do :p I also wanted to try out a potential new putter, Wilson Infinite Buckingham which is a full mallet style whilst my current Wilson Infinite Windy City is a blade and they had them in stock...

The driver fitting was kinda interesting, after a warm up/few shots with my club and then trying the Qi35, Elyte and finally G440 he asked a pretty simple question of 'If I asked you to hit it left could you?' (all my shots to that point had an open face and some level of fade), I thought I could and tried it and sure enough I can get it to go left, although it's very much a pull. He said that he was going for the 'draw biased' heads/setups, at least with the Qi35 and Elyte, but after I showed I could get the face closed/ball to go left we tried the standard versions but still preffered the G440, interestingly though he put me in a stiff shaft rather than regular, today I was hitting it a bit faster at ~92-93 compared to closer to 90 at the Titleist fitting for <reasons>

At the end I tried the same kinda swing thoughts with my driver and as I kinda expected/knew trying to close that face just leads to a massive pull hook... A pull is one thing but when it starts left and then turns way left it's just not usable, hence I think I've slipped into leaving the face way open.

I do like the G440 though, does feel like the bad ones just aren't that bad, but also liked the GT3 with it's clean looks and it felt nice.

The putter was really nice too, I'm actually putting well for the most part recently with my blade but it's been over a year since I changed putters so... I do notice occasionally if I hit a poor one out of the heel/toe that there's no forgiveness, but my last semi-mallet (Spider GT Rollback) with it's insert was very meh, love the look of a blade but kinda want to try a non-insert/milled face mallet

I can't speak highly enough of the 440 the dispersion is just so much tighter, case and point I hit so close to the hozzle on the weekend I nearly missed it and it still hit the fairway.

Drivers certainly feel so much more generous on bad hits.

Since I got my GT2 - seem to be able to hit it all over the face and still turns into a "good bad one" if that makes sense.

Heeled one so bad last weekend, nearly missed the club face, yet still found the middle of the fairway somehow....

During the fitting I even found the GT3, which isn't really labelled as particularly forgiving, to be pretty good even on mediocre strikes. But the Ping is in a different level tbh, but I think the GT3 did offer lower spin/better distance, but is that one where if I go for the distance I'll regret it and end up with the Ping anyway after losing too many shots to lost balls/hazards/OB

I went and had a putter fitting today (had clubshop winnings from last year paid out a couple of weeks ago and they've been burning a hole in my pocket:D)

I've gone for a Ping Tyne G putter -
temp-Image-SDx1-Mi.avif[img] - extra inch on the shaft and extra degree on the face. Only takes a couple of days to come from Ping so I may even have it for the weekend.

It only takes 2 working days to come which I'm really impressed with but Ping do have a quick turnaround - it may even be here for the weekend. Only thing I may change is it comes with the standard thin Ping grip and I'm used to a chunkier one but I'll give it a try before I start tinkering.

I tried the GT3 but it scared me how bad the bad ones felt. The good ones were like butter though.

I'm kinda curious about putter fittings, never had one and as mentioned kinda in the market for a (cheap!) milled-face/non-insert mallet but not sure it's worth it... How did you find the experience? Was it just a pro watching you putt or was there some tech involved?

It was just the pro watching me and measured me. I have had one before then they put a laser on your shaft etc but that for me just felt wrong as I felt my swing changed with the extra weight. What was interesting is that I have a straight putter swing which I never knew.

Don't bother with a fitting - just buy any Scotty Cameron - Simples.....

I have been using my G425 since it launched and I love the forgiveness I get with it, I can still hit bad shots with it that's for sure but def get away with some. No plans to replace anytime soon but I'll be def be looking another Ping driver when the time comes around.

yeah - G425 max was superb for forgiveness...I just couldn't keep the spin down with it.... Just hit it high and spinny all the time so in the wind was impossible to play with for me.

2 new courses added to my list completed this week.

Goswick on Monday (Note to self a 180 mile drive is not an ideal way to warm up for golf). Stunning course in amazing condition - another one ticked off the Top 100 list. Right on the coast, a proper links test but good shots were rewarded, however the greens were like lightning. Shot 81.

The Bradford yesterday. I did this as part of my flexi membership with FORE. Not a bad course, not the longest and the fairways were a bit wetter than I would have liked but nothing you can do about that at this time of year. Greens however were in exceptional condition. Shot 79.

Had an on course lesson Tuesday and posted my best score over nine of 46! :D

Really liking my new coach at a different club, my bad shots are so much better than before, with my slice really only being an over fade into the rough and not three fairways across

Currently sat in the airport before flying to Australia, have two rounds book in Melbourne next week, St Andrews Beach and Eagle Ridge down on the mornington peninsula, and will be getting a round or two in in Brisbane in April too.

Enjoy the cold and the temporary greens while I’m gone fellas :p:cry:

Out today for the roll-up, was kinda surprised yesterday when they kept the course closed but can see why today, still some very soft areas around!

Spent some time on the range the past couple of days working on a few things, the main bit being to limit the backswing to almost feeling like a half-swing, seemed to work out today for the most part, had a lot of good shots to take comfort in...

Unfortunately I made 3 really bad tee shots that cost me at least 6 shots overall, add on some decidedly mediocre/bad putting with 3x 3-putts and you've got a pretty terrible round overall. At least I felt like I struck it well today, for the most part :p

Stupid game we play.

Weather was lovely though, at least whilst the sun was out :) Playing 18 again there tomorrow, similar weather, maybe a touch dryer, fingers crossed I can avoid the bad tee shots and putt better, not too much to ask surely?
