what headphones do you own thread - i own dt150's :)

Sony XB4, Meze 99 Classic, Sennheiser Amperior, Grado SR325 E, 1 More Treble with a Hifiman Ananda nano on an Advance Paris ix 75 for me

New amp and cable and "new" HD600. It's been sat in a box for like forever....got it out for a whirl.

Bah, this amp doesn't play 100% nice with Macs. I cannot control the volume using system controls through this. It works fine when plugged into my Retroid Pocket 5 (running Android 12 or 13). It won't detect my iPhone and on my Mac Mini, the only way to adjust the volume is using the button on the DAC. I have tried using the app (installed on the RP5) to change from DAC volume to FWD and BACK or just volume.

This is annoying! Granted, it is not something I change minute to minute and I can still mute but it means the wheel knob on my Keychron keyboard basically doesn't control the volume now.

Meze 99 Classic

I'm really struggling not to scratch the itch and get the Meze 109 Pros, and Sony MDR-Z1R, but I doubt I'd actually use them much so hard to justify spending the money on them. I still keep coming back to a small number of my headphones for actual use.

IMHO the meze 99 classic are worth every penny . If I hadn't have purchased the Hifiman Ananda nano's for a great price I'd have gone for the Meze 109 pro. Either way, great sound and so comfortable. They'll let you try them in Richard Sounds.

Personally I use Qobuz with ROON, it's a great combo features wise and is actually 100% FLAC, a lot of which is at high sample rates.
I just signed up to Qobuz to see if I can appreciate the higher resolution. Student account too though I'll have to see if that actually works come payment time.

I finally managed to get a pair of Fiio FT1's (closed back) on my way to me and will be interested to try those out and see if the hype is real.

I couldn't stop myself and ended up buying the Bowers and Wilkins PX7 SE2. I was tempted by the PX8 but I thought saving a bit of money and getting a pair of headphones that was "good enough" would be fine. I mainly needed them as I absolutely require decent noise cancelling for a variety of reasons.

The only bad things I've found so far is that it takes 20 minutes to update to the latest firmware and you need an account on the app to update them.

So yes the hype is real. Very comfy, great sound paired with K11 RTR using both single ended and balanced. Lovely case and 2 cables. Very pleased.

I want to get a pair of Planar to see for myself the differences to HD600. I could get the Arya but my bank balance would much prefer Edition XS....how much difference between the 2? Reddit suggests VERY small, and I think if it's very small to people deep into the hobby, it would likely be unnoticeable to me. The only concern would be comfort and I've seen mods to the XS to create a soft headband.

Still rocking and loving my DT990s. Have dialled a bit of the treble out of them, much better now. The soundstage never ceases to amaze me, I often jump thinking someone is in the room!

Is there much better out there?

You can get some decent IEMs for a stupidly low price which when compared with a good quality DAC and lossless audio like Apple Music or Qobuz which sound amazing.

Went to my local HiFi store to see what they have, they seem to have more than i expected, along the HD600, HD660s they also have these.

First of all, the focals are too small for my head, maximum extension and I could not get it fit properly, so they are out, regardless how good they sound...

I can't really comment on how good they sound because all I had on me was my iPod and not my DAC so only can do 3.5mm in so only tried the Focals and RS-2X, both sounded weak when driven by the ipod but the most important part is they both are uncomfortable. On ear headphones are not my cup of tea at all.

have you tried any large planars? Try a pair of Aryas or even Ananda nano if you can, your ears will be changed forever :D

My Edition XS has been shipped today! Along with a 4.4m OpenHeart balanced cable.

edit - I did consider the Arya but didn't want to pay 3x the cost for something that I don't know if I will like. From what I gather, the biggest complaint with the XS is the headband for smaller heads. Mine is massive....like I am near max extensions with my Sennheisers so I don't foresee it to be a problem at all.

Good choice, the Edition XS is the price to performance king in the eggy line.

Only issue with it is the headband pressure, worthy of DIY modding to improve it with a suspension band you can get fairly easily.

Oh and be sure to check out this playlist of headphones/speaker tracks :D
