Are you really blaming AMD for unprecedented demand, scalpers and a worldwide launch? OcUK alone said they had thousands, it sounds to me like there were huge numbers UK/Europe/Worldwide, just not enough to meet the unprecedented demand.
Thing is look at how much stock ocuk had, times that by the other big 3 competitors in the UK, then think how many globally, that's a lot of GPU and significantly more than Nvidia, think I see gobbo said only had a few hundred Nvidia cards, and less than 10 5090's at launch.
AMD have not ballsed up, just the world wants GPU's,
Why are you talking like they're wasn't thousands of cards at just a single uk store? If amd didn't have a large number of cards ocuk wouldn't have been able to get thousands, they would have had substantially less as there would be less to go around.
The fact they had so many indicates that there was a lot to go around and it still wasn't enough. Probably due to people seeing the reviews of the joke 5070 and changing their minds and wanting one of these.
But AMD were talking about marketshare, do they really think they're going to gain much marketshare with a few thousand cards?
All those people looking to make the switch after the Nvidia stock shortages are faced with... AMD stock shortages...
People want graphics cards, you could tell that looking at this forum and forums like this one. Now a good number of people probably wanted Nvidia graphics cards, but they couldn't get them so they'll make do with what they can get. Think how many sales AMD could've got if they'd used the 2+ months delay to actually get stock to retailers.
AMD are going to try to get more stock shipped? Didn't Nvidia say the same thing?
I think at this point a lot of people will buy whatever they can get first. That could've been AMD. It might still be AMD, but the door is now open for Nvidia again.
In fairness all the stock in the world wouldn't stop all the UK PC retailers website from going down under the load of a few thousand users. I can't help but think that sites like the BBC, Google and some big online American retailers would take this sort of traffic in their stride. They'd get that many visitors and just go "Ah, it's a Thursday". And yes, they're much bigger companies with far more resources, but they didn't start out huge and being able to handle that capacity may have helped them get bigger.
(Also, remember a lot of us are frustrated and talking out of frustration and disappointment)
