I'm amazed you got 18C difference - as long as there is good surface contact and properly applied thermal paste the offset difference should be fairly minimal at that scale.

i dont have time for gaming ... use it for web browsing / forum browsingPeople really "upgrading" to one of these from a 9800x3D for gaming only?
I hope you're playing one of the few titles where you'll actually notice a difference![]()

His username checks outIt's a maddness.
I would just do a fresh install if I’m honest, you can backup quite a lot of windows settings etc now with your outlook account.I've got a busy evening on Friday. Ordered myself a 9800 x3d, ASUS ROG Strix X870-F, 32GB of RAM, and a 2tb M2 SSD. I feel like I needed to treat myself after the year I have had.
I wonder if my install of Windows 11 will transfer OK without a reinstall? I'll remove the drivers for the x370 board first and see how it goes.
arrived, quick service

having done a CPU swap myself, I can say its buggered my windows license and I now show as you need to register windows.I've got a busy evening on Friday. Ordered myself a 9800 x3d, ASUS ROG Strix X870-F, 32GB of RAM, and a 2tb M2 SSD. I feel like I needed to treat myself after the year I have had.

while I only game so its minimal annoyance I need to reinstall windows now and go through the setup, I have tried to rectify but nothing has worked so far.
Unless u use for work, its either a 9800x3d or the 16 core version really.I was hoping this would be the case, but as far as I can see it has two 6 core ccds which makes it a very awkward CPU really, considering it's so sandwiches between the 9800x3d and 9950x3d price wise.
No idea, I am running and Asrock Nova though which is one of the supposed problematic boards (although many have bought these boards due to NVME config). Every day is a panic dayLots of talk of motherboards and bios as culprits for the 9800x3d burnout issues when loading expo profiles. Any correlation with the ram kits and voltages or anything like that?
That shouldn't be a problem unless you have lost your activation code or it's a Windows OEM version. Even then, just buy a cheap Windows 11 key online. It's not as if Windows doesn't function without an activation code ... you just get a watermark on the screen.having done a CPU swap myself, I can say its buggered my windows license and I now show as you need to register windows.

What ram are you running with it and what speed/voltage? Is it running xmp or expo?No idea, I am running and Asrock Nova though which is one of the supposed problematic boards (although many have bought these boards due to NVME config). Currently running xmp just in case expo is more aggressive and causing these issues, although I am sure the timings are the same. What ram are you running with it and what speed/voltage? Is it running xmp or expo?
I don't want to splash extra for tight timing ram and then be scared to enable it
