Depends on the review site. The best is 40, the worst i've seen is 50. Either way, both are very loud for a GPU! For every 10dBA difference the perceived volume is double, it doubles every 3dBA for actual sound intensity/power.
Comparing different sites absolute measurements is pointless, you'd have to look at relative noise levels.

I set up new build running a Ventus 5070 ti for a buddy of mine, the GPU itself does run a bit loud under load but the temperatures seemed slightly high but lower than what reviewers were getting which seemed strange. I'm wondering if they used a sub-par thermal solution for the die and memory in their pre-release review units.

A basic undervolt and adjustment of the fan curve reduced the fan noise by a ton and brought the temps down by a good 5-6 degrees, I assume the Shadow will just need the same treatment.

Depends on the type of headphones and the amount of isolation they have. At over 40dBA, if your PC is on the desk, that's some amount of volume you need to drown out, even with headphones.

I have a 2 fan mba that is 40db on load without an undervolt or fan curve which I’ve done to quieten it down. Even stock it wasn’t enough to bother me but it was loud….

Basically it all depends on what you can tolerate and the price benefit from choosing a cheaper model.

I believe it can do path tracing a bit better than the 9070XT but to achieve consistent >60fps you would need DLSS.

This is plain RT much shows an almost 30fps gap. I’m sure path tracing will be similar albeit lower than 60fps for both.
In Cyberpunk and Metro Exodus my 9070XT is getting around the same as the 4070ti Super I had in plain RT,so I think a couple of PT games have been thrown into them averages

I fully agree, but someone who was buying a Nitro or Red Devil isn't someone who was buying a higher model for no reason. Usually it is either for cosmetics or cooling or both, which the Shadow does well at neither.
Basic models wouldn't exist if people didn't want them, so I don't disagree there are people who don't mind their flaws to get better value. There's a big jump in price to go like for like quality wise 9070 XT to 5070 Ti.

That’s a completely valid and fair assessment. If you were going purely on price/performance if both cards are similar some might be swayed by the performance despite the less than adequate cooling solution.

Yes, that's the same data as HUB's which has Black Myth Wukong at very high with quality upscaling, where the 9070xt gets 30fps and the 5070ti gets 57, and Indy on very high with quality upscaling where the 9070xt gets 17fps and the 5070ti 53.

So the Nvidia card is better for Nvidia games.

They are almost identical in performance when compared against a big base of games like TechPowerUp do. There are a few big swings either way which some sites who favour one brand over the other throw into a small selection of games to skew the average. Obviously if one of those games is one you play, then yes, it makes sense to switch if there is a big gap.

Hopefully they can close that gap in UDNA

That’s also fair but it is.. closer still to 60fps than a 9070xt.

I must add if the 9070XT heads back to msrp then without question that is the better deal.
A 3060 is closer to 60fps in PT than a 2060, doesn't mean it's acceptable performance (for me anyway) :D

It will go down to MSRP. At which point if the boggo MSI Shadow is upwards of £729 and a Reaper is £579 (which is the only real comparison as none of the other 9070xt's are as basic) then it's a complete no brainer. Unless Indiana Jones is the only game you intend on playing, with PT on, at 1440p at sub-60 fps!
