*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Mmmmm, overall not impressed was probably expecting more after 8yr cycle, not having a mario rpg or platform game for launch is just criminal. Too many games that I've played already on other platforms and more annoying chat and video that I'm not interested in. I think the Donkey Kong game is where they invested their time and it may just have done that with a not to bad bundle release price. Don't believe that FromSoftware game will be a nintendo only game either.

A summary of my thoughts : generally positive. Price is what I expected, near enough ( £395.95 ). Mario Kart World looks fun and will definitely pick that up on release, but in physical cartridge format rather than the digital / bundle version. All the FromSoft fanboys are going to be raging at having to buy a Switch 2 for access to the "The Duskbloods", which at first glance looks like Nintendo's "Bloodorne".

I have a few question marks about how previous Switch games will fare. So, we know some will get a "Switch 2 edition" ... but you have to pay for an upgrade. How much ? And it would have been good to have been given a comprehensive list of which games are getting a Switch 2 edition. Also, what about games that won't be receiving a Switch 2 edition ; can we expect better framerates/resolution at all ?

Not too worried about the screen being an LCD ; I'm sure an OLED version will appear a year or two down the line, but 120 Hz with HDR is nothing to be sniffed at. No word on whether the display has VRR functionality. I assume they would have mentioned it if it did.

Performance in general looks to be good eg. Metroid Prime 4 will be 1080p/120fps in handheld and 4K/60fps docked. I now expect many 3rd party games to probably achieve 4K/30fps in docked mode.

Gamechat is a welcome addition ; the lack of voicechat with the original Switch was a big drawback for multiplayer / co-op games. This should go a long way to plugging that gap, but I'm a bit sceptical about how well the built-in mic will pick up speech if the console is docked several feet away.

The camera functionality doesn't interest me at all, so no comment on that.

Roll on 8 April for pre-order !

That’s pretty crap in some ways for the prioritisation for people like me who have held off until the Switch 2 - Yes, I get reasoning why.

And £74.99 for a Pro controller, are you having a laugh???

And those game prices?! Wonder what the ‘Upgrade packs’ cost.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a platform game, not quite at launch but a month later.

Reckon £20 or so.

Think I'm out until some good second hand prices are available. Looking at over £500 to get a basic starter going with console, MK World and the pro controller. Thats nuts.

Can't believe the prices of the games, that's outrageous!
Thought the direct was poor after hyping it up.
Still interested in Mario World and Donkey Kong, but will buy them when they are cheaper.
The Fromsoft game looks awesome, looking forward to that one too.

Yeah, I’m a little on the fence now. Those are shocking prices for their games, which I can’t imagine take as much money to create as a lot of the PS stuff.

But how much will prices drop in the next year… knowing Nintendo, not much. Even 2nd hand.

Yeah that’s a **** take on game prices and doesn’t make sense

Mario Kart with a consol is £429

Without is £395 that’s not £75 difference! Makes the no game bundle even more pointless

They are working on the basis that the Switch absolutely printed money for them so if they bump everything 20% or so they will make like absolute bandits. I wonder how it will work out for them in the long run.
