*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

I thought under consumer laws we have the right to resell physical games, seems a grey area this by fooling people into digital when they think they're biting physical.

Nintendo have been clear in that this particular bundle includes a game download, it doesn;t mention a physical cart.

I have put enough hours into my switch, so this is an instant purchase.

When we travel.....the kids love hooking it up to my portable monitor and playing mariokart on it........long haul flights its a gamechanger.

Kinda bummed out that it isn't OLED at launch, but I am assuming they will 'relaunch' after a couple of years with the OLED model.

Nah. As usual they come out with 1 must play title and you need to wait a year for the next one to come out.

I have too many other must play games to get through so yeah, not hyped this time round ;)
Actually, might join you this time round. After reflecting on the Direct overnight, I think I will wait until the end of this year or early 2026 before considering picking one up. Not enough interesting 1st party titles at launch ( I'm not interested in 3rd party games that I have already played on PC/PS5 and for a fraction of the price ). I think Nintendo have dropped the ball with pricing, particularly for games. They have just priced out a big chunk of the mainstream audience they acquired with the original Switch.

Some more info from digital foundary

* no evidence yet that the switch 2 has dlss

* Metroid prime 4 appears to run at native 4k 60fps in docked mode

* Tears of the Kingdom runs at 1440p 60fps on Switch 2 docked mode

* In Japan buyers get a discounted $399 machine, but the machine is region locked and can't be used outside Japan

You have to request the invitation on Amazon if you haven't already, I didn't know this until this morning so probably too late now. I imagine these are going to be quite hard to get hold of for a while.

I requested mine around 30 mins after Amazon launched the link. No invite yet.

It wasn't that bit I was specifically talking about. It was this bit
"increasing number of physical cartridges containing only a digital key code with no actual game files."

Yep. It's all about 1st party titles for me. I am not buying a console just for 1 game. They take ages releasing games. My Switch would go untouched for months, once even over a year

I learnt from that. So yeah, no rush :D

Do I have to sign up to "register my interest" or is the invitation email get sent out automatically if you have a Nintendo account?
They are automatically inviting people that meet that criteria. There are many that do meet that criteria that haven’t received an invite so they aren’t offering it to everyone. It should just be temporary for the initial launch to keep the scalpers away.

DF released Some preliminary performance data for several games. I assume all of these are docked numbers

Donkey Kong: 1080p 60fps
Duskbloods: 1080p 60fps
Metroid prime 4: 2160p 60fps
Tears of Kingdom: 1440p 60fps
Elden Ring: 1080p 60fps
Cyberpunk: 720p-1080p 30fps
THPS3+4 Remake: 2160p 60fps

£399 seems perfectly reasonable for the console. It's cheaper than most of the PC handhelds, and there's a decent chance it's more powerful than some of them.

£75 for games is just crazy though.

No, because in the game bundle the game is a digital key that can only be used once and would be tied to the original owner's Nintendo account. It seems like Nintendo are trying to nudge consumers towards being "all digital" via the increased pricing on physical media, virtual game cards and an increasing number of physical cartridges containing only a digital key code with no actual game files.

I wonder if this could also be a security thing?

Every Nintendo console since the DS has had a huge emulation & piracy problem. If game carts don't contain game files, then those game files can't be dumped without cracking the console itself. And that means there's little point building a Switch 2 emulator until/unless the console itself is cracked (which may not be possible).

Just gave ShopTo a call as I put in a register your interest thing back in January. Apparently that pre-order is for the Console/non MKW bundle version as the bundle version got announced during the Direct.

Also said that when they get that the bundle up you'll have to put in a new order for it.

I've been thinking about this carefully overnight and although I really want to pre-order it I have an important expense coming up that is far more important than computer games and I'm not sure of the exact amount so I'm thinking I'll just wait and see until June and then re-evaluate. I still haven't completed some of my Switch 1 games so it is not like I have nothing to do to relax.
