Power Tools & General Tools Recommendations & Advice

Yeah, currently on the look out for a trailer too for transporting loads of crap. Annoyingly i've agreed a sale now with 2 people only for them to sell to someone else. One time it was whilst i was on the way to their house about 30 minutes after they'd sent me a google pin!
That's very annoying. I bought a small trailer when we did our house up. It has been incredibly useful.

I think these days the power you can get from battery systems is equivalent to petrol, and battery powered are much easier to look after. Only problem is the cost of the batteries!

I think that's true when looking at the higher brands, but unsure on lower stuff. Although the Einhell one i'm looking at uses 36v with 2 18v batteries which should help.

I seem to have ended up in 4 separate eco systems which has got a bit ridiculous. I think i probably need to buy one of those battery adaptors for one of the ranges!

Yeah, just found another which looks great but it's a bit more than i wanted to spend as it looks pretty much brand new and i just want an absolute beater for picking up gravel/firewood (places here just have big open stockpiles with a weighbridge on entry and you load up and pay on the way out for however much you have) and plants and stuff like that.

Afternoon fellow tool jocks after some advice

Ive got a lot of footage of hedge that ive ignored over the last few years thats grown to probably getting on for 8 foot, Ive set myself the target this summer for taking a few feet off the top to get it down to 5 maybe 6 foot high.

Currently in my aresnal of tools I have a 18v dewalt xr hedge trimmer, and a lot of swear words.

Ive been considering adding the dewalt pruning saw to deal with the thicker stuff, has anyone got any experiance of taking on that type of job and if a pruning saw if the correct investment?

This is for anyone who might find it useful.
I had a high hawthorn hedge at old house and in the end I cut it down to the height I needed then cut it from my side about foot or so lower than the back but at a angle up to the back of the hedge - That way I could cut it without steps and it was much easier to cut and you still had the height..

That chainsaw looks good. I have the pole-chainsaw and that is underpowered, albeit with care it does a good job. Honestly, I think the reciprocating saw may be better. Also, check the price of the DeWalt Chainsaw Oil. It's very pricey. I use a standard oil, but I think the DeWalt is thicker and so mine uses too much of the standard oil.

A recip saw with pruning blades would work well, but I have to say, the mini chainsaws are a lot of fun. I got a cheapo one from Amazon and have been using it today to cut apart some pallets and it made light work of it. I wouldn't mind getting a Dewalt mini chainsaw to use with my 4ah batteries at some point as the cheapo 2ah batteries that came with this chainsaw don't last long.

ARGH!
One annoyance with the darn government and these stupid online restrictions. I tried to buy a table saw this morning, and can't. Don't have a credit card, so can't prove my age.
This sort of thing really annoys me. I can't really imagine someone spending £1000 on a table saw, dragging it in to a park, and lopping off someone's head with it. I mean, for a start, it's 240V. That would give me a range of less than 5m. Now, had I tried to buy an extension cord, well, that would have been different.

I think if you've watched Adolescence 3 times that counts?

I understand -- I ordered a new flymo blade and had to prove i was old enough.
I have a credit card but never use it and it took me quite a while to get it through the muddled rubbish you have to go through.
I bought a tube of Super Glue - the nice lady on checkout asked me if I was 18 - I said reverse 18 what do you get.
She was smiling when she asked me and so was I.

This one in particular is eBay. They have just introduced the strictest rules possible. Any blade requires age verification, no matter how stupid.

This is one of those rules that I think is more of an inconvenience to millions of normal people than it is to the people wanting to commit a crime, who can just steal one from their parents kitchen.

In this case, I found the stores website and bought it direct. No checks required and saved money. Win, win.

Cross posting from the purchases thread for anyone interested.

These things feel really solid and the height is nicely adjustable. Something my old Keter workbench wasn't. Just need to pick up some 2x4. I splurged for the worktop and got a slab of 2.4 x 60 bamboo laminate which feels pretty decent. Might reinforce it with some ply underneath though as it's quite thin.

Holes in the top are for mounting 2 clamps which feels like it'd be useful

My trusty old Dewalt cordless drill has thrown a spanner in the works. The chuck has seized up meaning I can't release the drill bit that currently resides in it.
Have tried multiple methods, including some WD down the mechanism but it is refusing to budge.
May be bin time. I have had it at least 15 years though.

Tried this?…

I had similar with a Bosch drill and resolved it by repeatedly switching from forward to reverse, whilst trying to engage hammer. Eventually it worked free and I then greased the inside of the chuck and haven’t had an issue since.

Ooh, that's nice. I want.
I have work benches, but nothing I can move in to the garden. I might get a pair of those.
I've been looking for a support to use with a saw table, and looking at those, realise I could use one for that purpose. Maybe make a roller top for it.

Has anyone got a Ryobi leaf blower? They have about 5 different versions with roughly the same spec. Any real world experience/recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a cheap-ish angle grinder? Need one to remove cement from around about a dozen paving slabs so I can re-grout to the proper depth.
