Whilst a little joke is acceptable, maybe even a minor passing comment on your apathy towards what he represented, but some of you going off on full blown political angles, and anti-religious rants.

I think he was on his death bed weeks ago and if it wasnt for the fact of who he is he'd have been dead then, I bet he got more care and attempts at extending his life than almost all other 88 year olds with chest infection problems. Not having a dig at him, I hope he rests in peace and yes what a soldier for working right until the end.

He was the figurehead of an institution with a long and current history of rape, murder and paedophillia, whose teachings have been used to repress and demonise millions to this very day, so I can fully understand why some people feel decency went out the window a long time ago. Should Ukrainians have decency when Putin snuffs it?
That being said he seemed like one of the better ones and hopefully they pick someone in line with his interpretation of Catholicism.

Pretty poor to see so many deleted comments in this thread, you don't have to agree with an ideology or support to it show some form of respect to someone who has passed. The catholic church has it's issues and how it has dealt with child abuse is shocking, but there's so many that try to help people.

It's definitely going to make my trip to Rome interesting in 2 weeks. I don't know what to expect now, had planned on visiting the Vatican, and I imagine it'll be pretty busy there while a new pope is being elected!
