Hello all.

I'm very close to completing my new build (the AIO is the final component I need) but I can't decide on which AIO to buy. I've decided I want to stick with ASUS because I've always had them before and I've never had any problems. The two AIOs I've got my eyes on are...

https://rog.asus.com/uk/cooling/cpu-liquid-coolers/rog-strix-lc/rog-strix-lc-iii-240-argb/

https://rog.asus.com/uk/cooling/cpu-liquid-coolers/rog-ryuo/rog-ryuo-iii-240-argb-model/

They are similarly priced but one is STRIX and the other is RYUO. Which one would you get? Cheers guys.

A artic freezer 2 would be far better on performance and price, I have the 9950x3d on a asus hero x870e and my idle temperature is 34c odd and 45c odd gaming mind you it is a 420 mm aio.

Like I said I'd prefer to stick with ASUS (I want to stay within the ASUS ecosystem.. EG Armory Crate). Please just forget about money and recommend me one of the two AIOs I listed if you had to pick one.

EDIT: OK I've just looked at this...

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/arct...nce-cpu-water-cooler-360mm-coo-arc-01992.html

What are your thoughts?

Also.. Can NON-ASUS brands be configured in Armory Crate to change things like ARGB effects? Cheers guys.

I'd get the ryuo tbh if it had to be one of the two

Yes non-asus brands can be configured in armoury crate as long as you plug in the argb connectors into the Asus motherboard header.

And yes I would fully recommend the arctic liquid freezer 3. One of the best in class AIOs. And probably less than half the price of the Asus tosh.
But just note that it has a thicker radiator so you will need to check clearances and make sure it fits.

Wow ASUS gets a lot of stick for charging through the roof for adding bling to their products lol. If ASUS slashed their prices on their STRIX and RYUO AIOs would you still avoid them?

At the end of the day Asus AIOs are rebranded generic asetek coolers.
You can add as much bling as you want, but the performance and reliability will be the same as a £60 asetek cooler...because the core of it...is an asetek cooler.

It's all about aesthetics these days isn't it? Like you said they all perform more or less the same don't they.

Unless you're building an exhibition showpiece or doing it for the epeen, the aesthetics will not matter as much as you think it does.
I would rather spend £80 on a decent looking and excellent performance AIO and keep the extra £350 in my pocket, thank you very much :)
Also, do you stare more at your computer or monitor when you use your pc?

Can buy a thermalright aio
With argb fans and a screen on the pump top
For a fraction of the cost of those asus aio
As tammzy said asus just a rebadged asetek
With blng added
And a huge asus tax added too

As for being tied into armoury crate
Don't get me started lol
Always been more trouble than it's worth for me

yep. i've got a thermalright frozen prism for my 7800x3d

resource hog as well
and the install and uninstall time
it takes forever to do it
literally only need it for my motherboard oled display
thats actually useful
or i would never install it at all
i can see coolant temp, gpu,,cpu temp etc
with a quick glance rather than launch hwinfo , aida64 etc

Well guys I'm sorry to say but I gave in to the eye candy and bought the ASUS ROG RYUO 240mm ARGB. Thats my build complete and I can put it all together tomorrow. Over two weeks I bought...

9800X3D
ASUS ROG Strix X870E
32GB Kingston Fury Beast EXPO 6000C30 DDR5
ASUS TUF 1000w PSU

It came to £1318.42.

AND four weeks ago I bought a ASUS ROG ASTRAL 5080 OC which came to £1519.99.

So it all came to a grand total of £2838.41 for a high-end gaming PC. I won't need to upgrade for years now, I'm glad I've got it out the way. It's been 6 years since I last upgraded.

Please money and "ASUS/ROG-tax" aside but how do you think my new PC will perform? Not only in games but for other tasks like video editing and general productivity?

The rtx5080
In my opinion that's also terrible value
Not just asus this time
Any rtx5080

After all the what you bought is
Terrible value
It's still your money mate
So if that's what you choose to buy
Especially if you're aware it may be bad value
Then fair enough

For games
Obviously it's going to do very well
With a 9800x3d
And a 5080 value aside isn't going to perform terribly

Video editing and productivity
That's going to depend how intense what you
Are doing is
9800X3D isn't the best you could have gotten
For those tasks
It's a bit of a compromise between those tasks
And gaming
Again not going to be terrible or anything
But if you do a lot of video editing etc
The time saved with a different cpu would add up

For productivity and video editing
And not far off 3 grand total
32gb ram is lower than I would have gotten
Or suggested
64gb minimum and 96gb probably
Is what i would have gone for
Yeah 96gb is a lot
But if you don't upgrade for say another 5 years
It's probably still what I would get
Different choices with the asus aio
And the rtx5080
Would have paid for the ram with money saved anyway
Probably even cover a higher cpu too

So far think we will be in consensus
You could have done better for the money
But it's certainly not an awful pc by any means
And if you're happy with it
Then as already said
It's your money to spend as you like
So enjoy your new pc mate

From those mostly negative and hostile comments your sounding it out to be a sh** PC when it DEFINITELY isn't. Your not jealous or something are you? Because from the lay-person it looks like you might be. What GPU am I meant to buy from using an iGPU for 6 years? iGPU->5080 is a pretty decent upgrade (and a logical one) and a 9900K->9800X3D is also a pretty decent upgrade (also a logical one). Why are you being so negative? Is it because I chose ASUS or something? Isn't it a bit obvious what I'll be using my PC for from the specs I've got? I asked about other tasks casually. Get a grip pal.
