Recommend a strong paint stripper

I'm after as strong a paint stripper as I can legally buy.

Currently been using an aerosol stripper called Jenolite. It works well but you don't get much for how much it costs. Also the spray is hard to contain.

Ideally I'm looking for a gel or solution I can brush on. But powerful.

Any recommendations?

Spray on stuff is never that great, i guess because it would be extra dangerous if it was. I used to use Nitromors that was a gel, but it comes in a spray too, so avoid the spray.

It worked better than the own brand gel I got from screwfix.

Online reviews say nitromors is weak now since they banned certain chemicals.

I stopped the entire skirting boards downstairs back to wood. As you say, they're all not great now after the EU regulation. I tried Screwfix no nonsense, Paint Panther and Polycell Maximum strength paint stripper. Out of the three, I found Screwfix to be the best but only if I applied one layer, then another (as per the instructions with whatever time I stated to wait between coats) and then applying cling film and leaving for a couple of hours.

The Polycell was disappointing, it really stank and didn't shift the paint any easier. Paint Panther was also meh.

Can you use a heat gun? I've found this reliable for tough old paint, but it can scorch easily if you're not careful and it's also painfully slow.

I did to take off the thick top layer, but I still have a tint left and need something to try and soak in and then pressure wash off maybe. It's on brick.

As I say, the Jenolite seems to work well but it's very expensive for the amount you get in a can so I'd like a bulk container of cream/gel I can brush on.

Interesting. I'll follow the thread to see if anything gets found as i know i'll need some again. Depending on where you work, you might be able to get some commercial grade stuff delivered, or ask some friends/ family with potential access.

Have you tried peel away? It’s a decent product and you can leave it on as long as required. If you get the right version you don’t need to neutralise it after use.

I'll have a look thanks. They are all quite expensive so I haven't really tried a brute force approach as don't want to waste money.

Your trying to remove paint from brick?

If so brick is absorbant and it may be difficult to remove any paint stains.

A cheap alternative may be brick acid, it's used to remove mortar stains off bricks so should also remove paint ( but I am no expert. Try a small test patch first)

Brick acid didn't do anything.

The paint stripper is working, but it's taking a lot of it, hence getting expensive.

The new recipe of nitromors wouldn't take the skin of custard :s

Not like the old stuff where one drop on your hand gave you instant 3rd degree burns lol

Right so apparently the ingredient I need to find is called dichloromethane.

Found a product called Paramose, not cheap £60 for 5l.

Bit nervous about trying to buy it now given it's banned for being too dangerous.

I've just used the Screwfix no nonsense stuff on my gas meter box and it's worked well on the paint that was on there. Also tested it on some masonry paint that was on a roof tile and it turned that to mush so I could just wipe it off with a wet sponge.

The C-tec Peel Tec is suppose to be very good.

My very dangerous industrial use only paint stripper has been dispatched.

I hate to be really negative about this, but I wonder what you have bought. Much as though it keeps mentioning DCM, I am not sure it actually has any in it.

And it's against the law to sell it to DCM paint strippers without proof of certification. They would be breaking the law to dispatch any to you without taking note of your certification.
