Why aren't vegans eating the food they ask for?

There are a fair few vegans in our circle of friends who went from militant to part time vegans or cheater vegans... a nice kebab after a few pints kinda thing. It could just be our flakey group of friends but they also tell stories of similar behaviour of thier vegans friends.

I suspect part of the reason is that vegans/veggies don't actually really want loads of 'vegan alternative' ready meals, processed pretend meat products etc. they're quite happy buying fresh items / cupboard products and making their meals.

I'm not convinced there's actually that much demand rather lots of companies are trying to crowd into a small market and there's only so many choices of fake bacon you need.

This is the main thing. The pre-processed vegan food saw a large rise as the number of vegans grew rapidly and these meat alternatives served a purpose to help people transition diets. Now these vegans prefer to make bean burgers than meat alternatives, lentil Bolognese, falafel instead of processed fake meta balls.

Lots of companies jumped on the rapidly growing but still small market, now that market has declined slightly but there are more companies trying to get a part of the market. One way they do this is to try and increase bulk orders to supermarkets at low costs to buy a larger market share. This inevitably leads to oversupply.
Demand will eventually grow substantially so becoming market leaders now can have future benefits.

I suspect another difference is that meat has a short shelf life so they can better adapt and optimize supplies, but once meat is close to use by a lot is thrown out. With the vegan processed food options they can sell them at a discount for several days to a week before needing to throw them out.

Same reason any restaurant goes under usually. Not enough customers paying enough money to cover costs. Its not necessarily a vegan issue but that does reduce your customer base obviously.

I would hope most of them are out eating proper food rather than pre packed upf crap from a supermarket.

Maybe they got bored of having arms like a sparrows legs, translucent skin, fainting all the time and lets not skirt around the odour they produce, eww

But hey, enjoy your yellow sticker safari. Just know that while you're out there hunting 30p sausage rolls, the rest of us are busy saving the planet.

(I may have used some vegan Ai to write this response).

AI's energy consumption is significant and growing rapidly, driven by the increasing demand for training and running large language models and other AI applications. Data centers, which house the computing infrastructure for AI, are projected to consume a substantial amount of electricity, potentially doubling their consumption by 2026. Estimates suggest that AI could consume as much energy as a small country by 2027

Way to save the planet! :p

Sure I read somewhere that a month or two back that proper veganism/vegetaranism was on the decline, at least in the UK. That and I think the more casual crowd have woken up to the meat free alternatives, in a lot of cases, aren't particularly healthy either.

If you read the back of some of the "vegan" options in supermarkets I think most would be shocked tbh, many just assumed that vegan = healthy but that's not really the case unless you're willing to meal prep and cook properly to a degree.

I have the odd meat/fish free day once or twice a week depending, quite keen on bean heavy chillis, soups etc, but animals are far too delicious to give up entirely.

Imagine you can make a sausage, instead of there is a law forcing you to use a minimum amount of pork in order to be legally able to call it a pork sausage. You can now skip the most expensive ingredient, use 100% filler, call it vegan and then charge double.

It seems like a complete con!

Meat is murder

Had loaded fries today with diced & spiced chicken

correlation != causality.

they don't date all foods in the supermarket to have identical sell by days of the week - you just happen to visit on vegan time-out day. occams razer :
