Mods, can I have a poll please?

A. Yes
B. No
C. Sausages

I'd like to know how many here own a printer. Thoughts on the subject welcome. I'm not convinced that a PC involved forum would still result in a higher percentage of people owning printers, but I have nothing to compare to anyway. Personally I'd actually like to own a printer, but it seems all the budget printers out there are at the top of the consumers crap hierarchy listing for over a decade, thanks to the nature of the business.

(Edit)
It seems many aren't aware, but you can get the postie to bring you a label and collect the parcel from your safeplace, for 30p, btw.

(Edit2)
Bring back fax machines.

Yes, black and white laser, I can print stuff on the odd occasion when I need to and it just works.

In the past I had many inkjets, but they would always get clogged up. I got sick of that and had no printer for a while but it was annoying not being able to print.

Oh and it's wireless too, so it just sits in the corner of the spare room, not taking up space next to my pc. Bit of a faff when wifi details change and it needs reconnecting, but worth the hassle.

Yep, picked one up at the end of last year as we found it more useful for printing off labels etc. for Vinted/eBay vs. heading to a drop off point and finding the printer was out of service.

I did use the local library for a few years to handle any printing we needed to do but for 40 quid buying our own started to make a bit more sense.

Recently changed out an ancient colour laser which lasted over a decade for an ink tank printer with AirPrint support, wife and kids love it and it's dirt cheap to run and they can print from Mac/iPad with ease.

Yeah, I bought one because I had to print a document post-Covid and didn't know anyone with a printer, cheapo £50 HP.
I've used it about 10 times in 5 years. I hate the ******* thing. Constantly beeping complaining I haven't connected it to WiFi, beeping complaining it has 'no ink' due to a third-party ink cartridge, and the software for it is a bunch of bloatware mostly trying to sell ink subscriptions. Trying to print a postage label at the right size is a nightmare (though this could be the Windows print system at fault also).
To be fair, it eventually does the job and is tiny so I can put it away when not in use.

Yes a hp all-in-one. One of the last ones with 15 free pages per month, for the lifetime of the printer. Hopefully will have it for the next decade or so with zero need to buy their overpriced inks/subs.

Samsung black and white laser for the odd time I need to print documents or shipping labels - cost under £40 and toner cartridges are like £10 though I've not used up the one it came with yet. Does the job so far without issue.

Yep, have a mono and a colour laser. Both of these are related to my partner's business so for the 2-3 times a year I need to print, I'd go elsewhere otherwise.

Printers are the number 1 most evil piece of tech manufacturing. Inbuilt killswitches, locked cartridges, all manner of criminal behaviour from the producers. It's generally cheaper to buy a new inkjet than a full set of official inks. Then they dry up. I will not allow an Inkjet in my house ever again.

Our monochrome laser I've owned since 2009 and it was used when I got it. I think we've bought toner once!

An Epson printer + scanner, which hasn't been used for months.

It was used for signing and returning documents, but all recent documents have been accepted with a digital signature and emailed back.

Smartphones also do a good job of scanning documents and easier to use as they will crop, straighten and upload directly to the cloud. The printer can upload but it's a bit of a faff selecting the options on the tiny LCD display.

I have a Epson XP520 printer/scanner/copier inkjet that I have had for years and use with compatible cartridges plus a thermal label printer which I use for parcel labels.

Yes. I have a colour laser printer, which I bought because
  1. I need to print infrequently, and the laser printer always works reliably at that point, whereas inkjet printers will clog up if unused for too long.
  2. I was fed up with the increasing level of DRM. Unfortunately, modern laser printers seem to be moving in that direction too, so hopefully the one I own now will last forever (it's already 11 years old).
I use it for printing the occasional letter or other paperwork, the odd photo here and there, lost cat posters, birthday cards etc.

Yeah, use it to scan artwork now and again. Print Vinted labels for the wife more than anything else

Had a basic one for printing postage labels but over time its lost the ability to print straight and with most places offering label printing for free now I hesitate to replace it
