The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

Got mine today, Asus Prime XT* maybe something wrong, sanity check with temps / hotspots please.

Mine quickly goes to 60-67c, but hotspot leaps to 95-99c with the fan at light jet speed/noise, at idle delta between temps is 4-5c. Has 'perf' and 'quiet' BIOS, dont notice any difference in temps or noise.

Assuming not normal, I am using it in rotated FT-02 case, so id expected a few digits warmer but this seems abnormal. TPU comparison had reviews of 51-60c temps and 69-83c hotspots (also at over half the RPM / although not the same model.
it does seem hot my hellhound very rarely cracks 50c playing warzone atm

Reasonbly, tried without sidepanel as-well, HWINFO below after 5m (maybe less)

Will check a trad horizontal postion tomorrow
i know what you have done... i think
can you show us a shot of your tuning tab when under load please

your could have bad thermal paste

Looks faulty to me, I'd get it replaced.

An update, tested horizontally, temps abit more in line with others, still on the high side at 91c max hotspot but more importantly the fan doesn’t ramp way up. Had the FT-02 for 10 odd years maybe, GPU temps have been pretty good, maybe more modern flow-through really don’t suit it (3080 FE seemed ok, but had small delta between temp and hotspot)

Just rotated the whole case, sort of looks ok, just shows its size.

Still not sold if its behaving normally though.

so in the driver set a -90mv offset. and retest

yout gpu is boost right, but 90c on the hotspot is a bit much, how ever up into the 80's is normal with no offset and like you said a bad case for GPU temps
your first screen shot show your not running an offer set but your temps are been compared to people running offsets..

I've seen a number of reports of very high temps with the GPU mounted vertically and resolved when horizontal.
Wasn't that an issue with the 7900XT and XTX models as well? Haven't seen loads related to the 9070XT and non-XT about issues with mounting position but could be something similar.

Yes, I believe so. Certainly a good number of reports on reddit with similar issues.
I added a link to one post on reddit that showed a number of people reporting the same. There have been other posts on it with the same.

i have my GPU mounting on it end for a bit, I/O to the bottom and noticed no change in temps the problem with the 7900 xt/x will with the vapor chambers

your could have bad thermal paste
Could also be the chip surface issue (check igors lab)

That said, my core and hot spot temps are way higher than review models too, and I suspect it's just a bad paste job. haven't bothered voiding the warranty and repasting yet, it's ok with lower power limits, not bad enough to go through the pain/delay of RMA

you have to remember most review models are in an open air and temp controlled endowment, that how they test all GPU's so there on a level playing field to compare temps
Ah I see they are well endowed.

Has anyone told these members who use Postimage we cant see the images or is it just me that cant see them ?

It's not a stress test thing, temps go 60-65 within a minute.

That said, over the last week I've seen a decrease. Same test (I've logged a couple 100 timespy runs) but the temps dropped 2 or 3 degrees. And it's not due to lower ambient temps

Doesn't make any sense to me, I thought PTM didn't need to settle, but that's what I've seen.

Edit: I'm v happy with the card, huge upgrade from a 1070ti, was just annoying that by default the fans would ramp up noisy.
Last AMD GPU I had sat at 90degrees nearly all the time, can hardly complain

I've just updated my driver's and it would appear I can drop a further 20-30mV and still pass steel nomad tests. Gained an extra 40 points but it shows driver is not authorised
I wonder if they can alter the voltage curve via the driver update?

I'd get another 20 or so if the voltage at low clocks was increased (heaven etc catches instability when it stops/starts scenes and the clocks drop)

Edited the hosting.

Using Expedition 33, -90mV wasnt stable, but after some increments, just done 90mins -50mV and was ok, although same 92c on the hotspot (but room is warmer now, so might be 1-2 better)

Seem its the case layout thats hurting the most, do we think 90c + hotspot temps are ok?

The 9070XT is killing it in Doom The Dark Ages. May not be as good once the PT update is released but the game looks good enough in standard RT mode.
