Pc spec for wife’s oled gaming

I’m building a PC for my wife and was after some thoughts on how best to spec it for her requirements.

The PC will mostly be used for World of Warcraft and the latest Civ game. But who knows what in the future. She has the below 4k 240hz monitor so it would be nice to take advantage of it, especially as currently she has a 1080ti so can only run at 120hz 4k.

Is this purely Geforce territory or would an AMD also be an option? 5090 is out of our price range unfortunately! Price wise, up to 5080 for gfx and no cap on the other components price. Also, some pretty spinning colourful fans lol.

Thanks.

9070 is roughly equivalent to a 5070 and 9070 XT a 5070 Ti. Both can use upscaling (FSR4 and DLSS respectively) and frame generation. Hitting 240 FPS at 4K is a big ask for any card, but if you're doing 120 with a 1080 Ti then any of those cards should easily achieve double the FPS with a suitable CPU.

As I said in the post, up to a 5080 for the graphics card cost, the rest has no budget - I just can’t justify over 2k for the gfx.

probably save money in downgrading to a 1440p monitor, then using a GPU which is a 1440p card. Rather than sticking with 4K monitor and needing a 4K GPU.

Or I guess get a 1440p card then use 1440-4k scaling for a FPS hit.

There is no maximum budget. I just didn’t want to overspec it for no reason, hence saying what games would be played and the monitor it would be on, and saying I don’t want to pay for a 5090 as it would, imo, be a waste for the games she plays.

Apologies if you couldn’t infer that from what was said…

It’s more of a, what’s “good enough” for what it will be used for without getting useless upgrades.

No budget, no problem. Asus ROG to the rescue

For MMOs, get a X3D. 7800X3D or 9800X3D

Board with no USB4: B850/B650E/X670E
Board with USB4: X870/X870E

RAM: given the games being played, I suggest start with 48 or 64. Some 96GB kits are currently very cheap,.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,206.88 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Though personally if OP did really have no budget, then 4k 240Hz = 5090
The rest of the current line up, nvidia and AMD aren't great at their current prices

That's true, 4K/240 is one of the (few) use cases a 5090 makes sense :o

also @Tetras OP wanted fancy lights and you specced him/her/it a black case with non-rgb heatsink
is this your way of taking the pee? :P

I think if a genuine question is so triggering, it may be best for you to take a break from posting and/or move on to a thread that is more to your liking rather than rudely trolling someone who hasn't got up to date hardware knowledge.

My current spec is around the level of Tetras' suggestion with a B650E and a 5080 and the same monitor as my wife, I also just really play WoW. I wasn't sure whether I had overbought for what I use it for and why bother doing that again, its silly.

However, thank you for the suggestions, even the first ridiculous one.

If you think I'm triggered then you should think again lol
And no I'm not trolling you for the lack of knowledge, that's why this forum is here, so that you can get honest opinions on what is the best build for the budget
You won't be the first to say you don't have a budget only for that to turn out to be extremely limited and insufficient for what the spec calls for - hence why I push to ask for a budget

I also just really play WoW
WOW, like every other MMOG, automatically calls for a X3D chip

maybe a mistake to have gotten 240hz 4k monitor?
not sure youre going to hit 240hz at 4k
even with lowered settings
and seems somewhat pointless to spend that
much money on a gpu and still have to lower settings
a 5080 is just such a tough thing to recommend
due to cost and still a 16gb card and barely an upgrade
from last generation 4080 super (not counting fake frame generation)
the 9070xt is far better value
but less performance
if youre willing to compromise on settings
and probably lower refresh rate
then yeah probably doable though it would still choke me
to recommend a 5080

led fans range from cheap to very expensive
and a huge range to pick from
cheap artic p12 argb probably best fan for value
expensive phanteks d30 probably best for looks and performance
and too many inbetween to list

I understand, i apologise if I came across insulting. I just genuinely wanted what I thought was best value for her use case - it's why I couldn't really put a budget on it. Budget honestly is 'whatever will work best for her without overpaying for no reason'. I'd rather use the extra and buy yet more Peppa Pig paraphinalia for my daughter

Thanks. Maybe a mistake for the refresh rate, but it does look very nice ingame which is why she wanted it. I get 240fps at max settings in WoW, but it is an older game - one of the reasons I wasn't sure whether a different graphics card would be just as good for her such as an AMD or 5070 etc.
