Who has upgraded from a 4090 to 5090 ?

To busy spending money not enough time left to play games. ;)
No one here has any time for gaming it's all about the rig;) Tbh I'm struggling to find any game I really want to play that needs a 5090 rather than a 4090 and it was a drunken decision but it's my only 'expensive' hobby so I have a budget assigned and it needs to be spent otherwise funding will be cut by the sober rational half of my mind.

Well I'll put my hand up and say I did :D

I sold my RTX 4090 for £1280 and I got my 5090 Zotac from OcUK for £2K

I had that RTX 4090 for just over a year, but it was a warranty replacement for one I bought from launch.

I game at 4k my rig specs are:

Intel 14900KF
64GB RAM
Zotac SOLID OC RTX 5090
3x 2GB WD Black SN850X's in Raid 0 as this is my gaming rig so like the performance

This is hooked upto my LG 48" C4 OLED Screen

Expensive yup, but this is one of my few remaining hobbies along with shooting when I get the time now days.

This gen it has been great as 4090 kept its value for its AI usage and hopefully 5090 will be the same but compared to how new GPUs have felt in the past for £750-800 this is a good upgrade.

I was wondering who had made the move from 4090 to 5090?
Just wondering what people's experiences have been like ?

I did... I sold my 4090 and bought a 5090FE with a difference of approx £300
I guarantee that when it's time for me to sell the 5090FE it will be worth more than £300 over the 2nd hand price of a 4090, so I'll actually be in profit from the upgrade

Personally I have no idea why anyone would blow two grand for 30% more performance when they already have more than they really need. Wait for the next gen and save your money. Or just send it to me if you really don't want it :p

I agree, blowing two grand on top of selling the 4090 is silly. But if getting one of the cheaper 5090s, closer to MSRP, you can be better off in the long run when it's time to upgrade again

Spend 3 grand on furnishing your pc room instead. Blow cash on a fancy chair, desk, lighting, decorating and an oled instead.

That's what I'd do anyway if money was burning a hole.

I have sold a few assets and thing what can I treat my self with, but finding the reviews a little under whelming.

Ill be coming from a strix 4090 which is a good solid performer well above average, with the price of the Astral at 3k is way too much I feel and because Asus are the only ones who do 2x hdmi I'm limited to either a tuf or Astral. Which again is 2.5k.

By time Ive sold my 4090 for say 1500 ? It's a 2k upgrade and tbf my 4090 doesn't struggle and I doubt i would notice the extra 30% ?

My experience was a positive one. I upgraded from a 4090 to a 5090 mostly for VR. With a 4090 and a pimax crystal the settings i used put GPU usage above 90%-95% in sim racing and DCS etc and i had the occasional frame rate slow down in a busy scene. With the 5090 the GPU usage sits around 60% - 70% with the same settings, obviously a much more constant smoother gaming experience. After the sale of my 4090 and buying one of the cheaper 5090's the price difference wasn't huge so i found the upgrade worth it.

Fair enough. Toughgaming around £2500? Think that's the price. I'm sure I'll take a hit in two years time on resale but happy with what I spent for another 30-50%. Rarely 50% uplift and don't play those games but RDR2 looks better at 4K with 1.5x DSR a comfy 80-85fps vs 60-65fps previously. I already had an upgrade urge and happy with it tbh.
RDR2 is an amazing game, I started that on my 3090 and maxed at 4k It couldn't get 60fps was so happy when I upgraded to the 4090

I did, and it’s been mostly a pointless upgrade for the type of games I play (Diablo 4, PoE2) but for the odd time I play Division 2 and Spacemarine 2 and even started playing Cyberpunk again, it’s been brilliant

It helped that I sold my 4090 for £1500 and got a 5090 for £2095 so was a fairly cheap upgrade. I just can’t help myself and love to upgrade.
I feel like cyberpunk has had a lot of optimization as full settings (not path trace though) with dlss on 4090 Im between 120-160fps

All ready been doing that i own 1x77, 3x65 and the latest alienware 240hz 4k and the dual mod ROG oleds maybe I should look at more car mods instead.

I would probably do some of that too if I wasn't super untidy and didn't care what the room looked like. Got a good chair and OLED and spend most of my time looking at the screen not background clutter/visual noise.

I sold my Suprim X 4090 for an insane £1840 on eBay. Granted I paid about £100 more for it from what I initially paid for it but that resale value was insanely good. From whom I sold it to I can see it was going straight to China... Ended up buying a 5090 Vanguard for £2600 as I'd also purchased a 4k 240Hz OLED.

I was happy with the performance of my 4090 but as it was second hand I was worried about having no warranty. Sold the 4090 on eBay for over £1800, probably to the same Chinese buyer as previous post. Bought an 5090 FE for £1889 so was a cheap upgrade in the end.

I did the upgrade, great resale value on the 4090 so the difference was only £700. The extra 25% performance at 4k is nice.

I feel the value aspect of the upgrade is less important if you're already in the 3090/4090 club. Paying way too much for marginal gains is the same for the 5090 as it is was for the previous cards :p

Only £700? You can buy a 9070xt outright for less than that :p

this is one of those relatively uncommon moments when i have to say that i can see that one being actually worth it without even thinking about it
was kinda a lucky position you were in i guess but yeah id say almost stupid not to do it in this case
