Quest 3 owners etc

Meta link was working fine last night but if it fails I will look at this again, I had the early version when I bought my Rift.

It's a lot better now. The main advantages are the performance boost when using VDXR and that you can configure everything wia the streaming app and in-game menu, and not have to dig into debug settings to get decent quality.

it is tempting but I need to buy a router and from what people say on the DCS forum it is worth it. I might just sneak it in the all my new computer parts are ordered.

My router is a bt smart hub 2 but as its downstairs and quite a distance from my gaming rig it would be a no go. It will cost about £30 for the router plus another £19 for VD so I might give it a go and send the router back within the 30 day return window. At present I am using a tp (5ghz) access point on top of a bookcase directly below my computer as a couldnt get a Ethernet cable to the computer.

I currently use an aftermarket cable which gives a good enough transfer speed but could always do with more, but if using the link cable becomes a liability the maybe VD is the way to go.

I have ordered some of my upgrade parts and wondered about a cheapish router solely for use with virtual desktop. Any recommendations?

Im on a netgear wifi 6E, you could also try Asus

Have you tried the router that you currently have?

My old plus net wifi 5 router was fine

I cant use the family one as its downstairs and the router needs to be quite close to the headset. I will also need to get a Cat8 patch cable The fun never stops.

Why cat 8? Cat5e is good enough, I run cat 6, no difference between the two

My main router is down stairs, I run a cable from that outside up to my bedroom, I have a top spec netgear 6E router in here connect to it , switch to Access Point mode, I connect my headset at 2400

I have to admit to being a bit lost on the whole software side of things. Would something like this work alongside virtual desktop?

Hmm. I was about to say that it seems to fulfill the brief of a standalone router just for VR, while costing a lot less. But it seems to have gone a bit crazy price wise. I'm sure I only paid about £50-60.

The Access point is fed by cable and it is about 1 meter underneath my pc. I have read this post on the DCS forum

I am getting very good results with VD since the last update. Very smooth and sharp. Good latencies. But I have noticed a slightly annoying moire. It's not always noticeable, only really when my eyes are close-focussed on a very flat, dark background such as the sea. Has anyone seen this?
I am using an Ethernet to USB connection rather than WiFi.

I have asked about using an adapter fed from the eithernet port on the motherboard on the DCS forum. That would be a lot cheaper, we will see what the answer is.
