Who has a WHOOP band and how are you getting on with it?

but this is what i'm saying if you got the 4.0 last month on the basis of free upgrades and found out you needed to extend for a further 12 months you'd be pretty miffed. i've only got a few months left.

@booyaka is this because you're extending on the base plan? if not and it's peak then thats a good offer! ignore just gone through doesn't look like you can downgrade so that's a good offer as you're a long time subscriber.

I see what you're saying, If my upgrade was next week, would I get the new hardware free? I assume you do, as you could just cancel your current plan and take up a new one. Yeah, that doesn't bother me too much as I'm kinda bought in to using the Whoop and will likely extend again in 22 months. It more annoys me I can't see how I can extend at the two year price, which is what brings it down to about £16 a month.

I guess the hope for balancing the cost is gifting your 4.0 to someone. If they sign up, you get £40 or £50 or something like that. If you cancel and join again, I suppose you can't do that?

Nope, this is the same for me, mine runs out in August, could gift my current one but that relies upon someone signing up for the year to make it the same cost as 2 years, which you then can't get the gift pack or upgrade with.

How do people feel about the Whoop 5.0? It looks reasonable, but the price hike for the top tier seems to be a step too far for me. Twice I've paid for the two year plan and it worked out at about £16 a month. To me that's right on the limit of what I think it's worth to me.

To get the MG and move to top tier would transfer all my payments to around £31 a month... which is just too much for me.
Yeah bit miffed if they've hardware locked the top end stuff like ECG into the MG unit and the standard 5.0 won't have them at some point.

It does seem too expensive, when the only real 'gains' for the top one are 'health' based rather than performance or fitness focussed?! I think they'll find it won't sell units as there's not obvious gains for those willing to spend more on their data. Maybe they're aiming at the older age market for new-subscribers traction there to the higher band...

The top level one is too much for sure.... I usually find a code to reduce the annual by around 15/20% so if I can find that again I'll go for the 5.0. Battery life sounds good.
If you find one and happy sharing then please let me know - my renewal is end of July so at the moment not much point delaying an early renewal to get the 5.0 included.

4 to 5 days?! I didn't think they were this bad. I was hoping for at least 10 easy.
Nope think my 4.0 might have done a week a couple of times when new, now it's less than that... But doesn't cause me any issue - must be over 5 days but below 7. Whenever I get the alert it's below 15% I'll plug the charger in, then when I notice it green put it on my wrist until I realise it's there and take it off again (sometimes just before bed and it's been there all day!)

I was lucky to have 2 chargers so I made sure one was always plugged in so I wasn't caught out.
I bought myself an extra charger - looked on ebay for someone selling a unit so got an extra strap too, £40 for both - ideal! I have 1 charger at work & 1 at home. Don't tend to keep them charged as really no point - see above.

I wouldn't worry about getting caught out... I did for a while at the start. Then when away for 4 days (long weekend) evening of the first night I had the 15% alert and realised I'd forgot my charger, it was down to 12% the next morning, 8% the morning after that. It died somewhere middle of the 3rd day, so although sometimes it seems to hit that 15% warning quite soon after charging (possibly it didn't get to 100% last charge) I know it'll do at least 24 (and probably 48h) after the alert anyway! :D

A few people on Reddit have managed to get a one-time code for a free upgrade. I've got Gemini to write me a nice letter and have sent it off to try my luck.

Literally within the last hour -
We're updating our upgrade eligibility to ensure it reflects both our values and your expectations. We heard your feedback, especially from those of you with more than 12 months remaining on your membership.

Starting today:

  • If you have more than 12 months remaining, you’re eligible for a free upgrade to WHOOP 5.0 on Peak. This will be automatically applied when you go to check out.
  • If you’ve already upgraded to WHOOP 5.0 on Peak and paid a one-time upgrade fee despite having more than 12 months remaining, we’ll refund that fee. You’ll be receiving a refund – stay tuned for an email.
I choose to believe it was my email that made the difference...

So, I've just placed my upgrade to 5.0 Peak and added a Bicep Band to the order. I had to pay £7.99 postage too, but I guess that's fair.

Well really not impressed so far! Got back home last night to a delivery. Set it all up, synced up and went to bed (it had 30% charge so good enough for overnight and I’ll charge up in the morning).

Come this morning and it wont sync. Nothing. Tried all the usual troubleshooting stuff on their site, and it wont go into pairing mode. It’s basically stuck in a mode where the HR (green) lights are just blinking away, so not even detecting it’s being worn or not.

Most advise on forums say let the battery fully drain (so that’s about 5 days of wasted time!) then try again.

So I doubt it logged anything from last night, and now it’s a brick, just flashing away.

Will get in touch with CS, but not a great start!

Yeh seems like the most likely solution is to let it drain. So that’ll take about 4-5 days! They better extend my trial period!!

Oh well……was looking forward to nerding out over more numbers.

Just to check, to try and sync you go mad tapping it 8 or 9 times and hopefully a blue light comes on? I remember when I've had to do it, I just keep tapping, hard, until the blue light comes on the side.

Nope. The device is stuck in an odd mode. The green HR sensor lights literally just flash away in bursts. They should stop when you take the watch off but they don't, so when I do the continuous tap, I never get the pairing light as the device is in this stuck mode.
So I've got to wait until it dies, charge it up and try again. 5 days wasted.

On your device, when you are wearing it, how do the green (HR) lights pulse? Are they continuous? (like a Garmin) And they do stop when you take the device off?

Yes, so you have tried the continuous tap. That's all I know to pair, sorry. In your phone's Bluetooth settings, does it shows as disconnected? Have you tried connecting in there, or 'Forget' and try again? If you borrow a phone and check its BT settings, does it show on the list of nearby devices? Have you tried things on the phone side of things? Is there a BT cache or anything I wonder?

When I take mine off, it soon stops flashing, yes.

Reddit thread with a few tips. (Albeit, one is simply to wait for the battery to die, there are some other things to try)

Yup. Forgot the device on my phone. Now it's gone of course as I can't re-pair it. Not showing up on other devices, so I'm not even sure it's broadcasting anything. It's basically an 'alive' brick at this point. (although it does respond to the double tap battery check, but not multiple for the pairing)

It did no a firmware update last night too, when on relatively low battery, maybe that messed it up, but I'd presume it wouldn't proceed with an update on a low battery - you'd hope!

If it's reporting battery status on taps, that would suggest it's not bricked. You're sure you're holding firm enough and tapping firm enough for long enough? (I only ask as I've been sure before and it didn't pair, buy kept trying and then it did)

How do you hold it firmly?! I'm literally bashing the *** out of the thing (and a bit lighter too ;))

All WHoops text say wait for the green lights to stop flashing, THEN tap continuously. My green lights never turn off. There still going now after I took it off at 05:30

Weird. My 4.0 just sits on my wrist doesn't seem to pulse if I lift the edge and stare at it... Taking it off, stays lit for 3-4s then goes off. No flashes/pulses.

With my disconnect issues over the weekend and earlier this week their Tech support sent me these steps on how to reconnect, certainly I had issues reconnecting mine without it having the charger connected, but was the opposite to yours no lights and just no life, a battery check showed green but no connection. Basically did step 5 (just following googled instructions before they sent it though) but putting the charged pack on, after 5 mins of messing it easily they popped up and connected showing a high charge so can't have been lower than 50-60% maximum.

So just repeating them here in case steps are different to what you've tried:
Here are a few quick checks that usually clear up repeated disconnects with WHOOP 4.0:

  1. Reboot the sensor
    • Open the WHOOP app › More › Device Settings › Advanced › Reboot Device.
    • Keep the app open and the strap nearby for at least 30 seconds.
  2. Update firmware & app
    • WHOOP app › More › Device Settings › Update Firmware.
    • Confirm the WHOOP mobile app itself is on the latest version in the App Store/Google Play.
  3. Verify phone settings
    • Bluetooth ON and WHOOP showing as connected in your phone’s Bluetooth list.
    • Disable any power-saving or battery-optimization modes that may restrict background Bluetooth activity.
    • Keep Background App Refresh (iOS) or allow background data (Android) enabled for WHOOP.
  4. Quick reconnect tip
    • If you ever lose connection, toggle Bluetooth OFF for 10 seconds, then ON, and reopen the WHOOP app. This often re-establishes the link without a full re-pair.
  5. Sensor reboot + “Forget & Re-pair” (only if the above doesn’t hold)
    • iOS: Settings › Bluetooth › tap “WHOOP” › Forget This Device.
    • Android: Settings › Connected Devices › tap “WHOOP” › Forget.
    • Re-pair through the WHOOP app (More › Device Settings › Pair Your WHOOP).

^ thanks @Roady but it’s all irrelevant as the device simply will not go into pairing mode. So I can’t do anything in the app, as it wont connect to that, and I’ve done the ‘forget’ thing on the phone, so as far as it’s concerned, it doesn’t exist.
It’s still sat there flashing away. Well actually it’s in the fridge in a desperate attempt to get the battery to drain quicker. I wont be keeping this particular device even if I decide to give it a go so screw it.
