Definitely the way they handled that would leave anyone without at least a passing interest in the books and/or without extensive experience of the genre in general more confused than anything and even with a passing knowledge of the books and 30 odd years of reading and watching this kind of stuff I only kind of pieced together the important bits of it into something cohesive. I thought it was kind of a cool way overall to do the Rhuidean thing though.

I still enjoyed it overall but I thought there were some dubious decisions.
Why did they give the fire swords to Aviendha? Thought the Aiel hated swords and would never use it over spears
Also what was the point of stilling Siuan just to kill her off so brutally which breaks ones of the 3 oaths?

Not sure if it isn't something of a cop out/not much of a distinction but a closer look at the scene they appear to be short handled spears rather than swords as such - a little clearer when Sammael is pierced by one. Aviendha from the show is not a 1:1 interpretation of Aviendha from the books but a composite of several characters (seemingly also Gaul) which does lead to screwy things at times though.
EDIT: Related to above something which is kind of cool and I hope the show uses more definitively - in the show most characters can only really use one power at a time - even Lanfear struggles with more than one weave at a time, Moiraine only at her most amped up has some limited ability but requires Lan to watch her back to do so, while Rand almost casually uses two or more.

I logged in to Prime last night, setting myself up for another episode and discovered last weeks was it?! Bit of nothing end to this season.
I'm not sure if I'm enjoying this series or not. Looks very pretty but with some serious wonky acting. Guess I'll have to wait another year for something to happen.

Siuan is stilled then escapes and later regains limited powers after Nynaeve discovers how to cure stilling, or gentling. She is then present throughout the series right up until the Final Battle when she is killed

I'm not sure if I agree with how they worded the article, especially in describing the authors involved. Still, it's a shame as I do feel they'd actually started going in the right direction with the much improved (albeit not perfect) S3. Probably costs them an absolute fortune to make person season however, and if Amazon isn't willing to fund it I can't think of any other network/platform that might be willing to pick it up.
I rarely watch new TV shows now because of this. I'm patient enough to watch finished shows from ten years back.

They need to start adapting shorter series, trilogies or one offs. None of these shows are going to survive until the end of the series.
Shame they dropped this rather than Rings of Power. While Wheel of Time isn't perfect, it's the better (and cheaper) show.
With the cancellation of this, I guess we can say goodbye to any possibility of other big-budget fantasy book adaptations any time soon. The conclusion will be that audiences aren't interested (which is probably half of the problem, with the other half being that they screwed it up).

I'm not sure how much that would help? Just look at what happened with Shadow & Bone & My Lady Jane (for two recent examples). Both shows had strong first seasons & were straightforward to adapt. Both wound up being cancelled.
Aside from the Game of Thrones franchise, which big fantasy franchises have actually been a success in recent years? I'm starting to think there isn't an audience for them.

Yeah you might be right. Shadow and Bone at least got to the end of the trilogy (I've not read it but the main story was finished as far as I can tell and most of the Crows story was told too) Maybe the audience just isn't there for the higher budgets, it's a shame. I think it's definitely feasible to adapt a trilogy with one book per season, a lot of shows manage 3 seasons.
100% recommend this mate. It's 100 x better imo. I would go with Michael Kraemer and Kate Reading version if you can.
Keep your eye on Matt and you will understand why he my favourite character.

Rings of Power is irredeemable guff as far as I'm concerned, the WoT series was heavily flawed but it had at least some things going for it and kept improving.
RoP has nowhere to improve into, it's fundamentally flawed tumblr-esque fan fiction that must have J.R.R rolling in his grave.
