I don’t think ants eat them, although I could be wrong, I thought they just harvested (‘milk’) the sugary sap from their bums

Ants will also defend the aphids from other predators (ladybirds etc) so that the aphids survive to continue feeding the ants.

Get some ladybird larvae in, then it'll be a full blown orgy war.
Squash the aphids and especially ants first to give the ladybird larvae the upper hand.
Yes! cabbage, broccoli, beetroot, swede and parsnip in that one. The Gilson variety of cabbage is doing well, Primo not so much as it seems slow growing and had to replace a dead one last week.

The raised beds make maintaining it so much easier.
No more bending down to plant or weed and can chose the soil we have, I've always gardened in heavy clay but now got lovely loam
I've finally finished the top part of our garden. Wish I got a before picture as it was completely overgrown. Slightly different to my original plans
Fences and shed need a good lick of paint, but I'll do that next year. To the right of the photo, there's a part of the garden which I used to dump rubbish while I cleared this bit. There's all gone now and instead of returfing it, me and wife have decided to gravel it.
