Have they said how long the delay is?

Nope, strangely when I track the order it states that it was getting packed yesterday and still due for delivery on the 5th. Very blamed the Royal Mail as they have not received the package. Hoping it is just down to volume and the system is struggling.

I only want to know if to work from home Thursday or not.

This is the same for me. Although I'm not 10 years old, I just need to know if I should be at home to accept the delivery :)

The older I get the more I realised that I love the anticipation of the item's arrival than the actual use of the item itself. Over the past 2 years I have bought over half a dozen retro consoles, each time I look forward to its arrival and setting it up but once it is set up, I hardly played them. Yet I still watch reviews and release of new models.

I also found I get the same kind of endorphin rush of looking forward to something seemingly trivial like a new set of keycaps to a new Macbook Air that I got the other day. Actually, the most exciting thing I have on pre-order right now is a Split Alice keyboard lol.

As for pre-ordering a console, I never have done. Normally just rock up on launch day or any day i am in town and bought in person, never tried very hard to get them.

Amazon changed my expected delivery overnight from Saturday to Friday. Argos seem on track as I got an email from them yesterday assuring me it'll be delivered on Thursday.

Got some screen protectors arriving today. Hype starting to build.

Yep - know that feeling.

Although recently I've started to prefer to go in to these things blind. So for example I couldn't get near the PS5 or Series X at launch and just avoided all coverage of them until I finally got them in 2022, 18-months later. It just meant my experience wasn't marred with other people's impression and thoughts before I finally got to play with one. Similar to how view games now. I don't really look at reviews, or the launch buzz, but will have the games on a wishlist waiting for me to buy.

Other than the Switch OLED Zelda edition, this will have been the first console since the PS4 that I've pre-ordered. I picked up the PS5 Pro on launch weekend with no pre-order. And didn't get an original Switch (lite) until 2020. So in that sense it shows how highly I rate both Mario Kart and Nintendo games in general.

I have never ever pre ordered any console…unless the Steam Deck counts?

Same here. The Switch 2 is the first one I've pre-ordered. In the past I've always had Xbox consoles but mainly used them for playing DVDs and Blu-rays. Still £400 for something that will last 5 years+ is a pretty good value.

Kinda does, I know it's a PC but it definitely has some benefits of a console.

I've pre-ordered a load of consoles over the years, even back when the Megadrive and SNES hit, saving up my pocket/Birthday money. The reason I didn't with Switch is because I'd already played the two biggest games on Wii U. This time I know there are going to be loads of great games and really looking forward to MKW.

I've only ever pre-ordered the OG Switch and PS5. The former was a straightforward affair, the latter was a nightmare compounded by scalpers during the pandemic. Like @Raymond Lin, these days the anticipation pre-launch is more exciting than when the device actually arrives. Strangely my hype for the Switch 2 has fallen off these last few months - I think it's a combination of the question marks surrounding full backward compatibility, a limited launch line-up ( MK isn't a big deal for me ) and the fiasco with game cartridges ( cards with key codes only ). However, if you'd asked me last year if I was more hyped for the RTX 5090 or Switch 2 in 2025 ... the latter was my pick by a mile. In the end the RTX 5000 series has been a damp squib and I have some reservations about the Switch 2 despite being a lifelong Nintendo fan.

We are all probably so used to Nintendo doing something a bit different each time, that simply improving what worked seems odd.

Likewise, though if there’s a new Nintendo or PlayStation console I’ll normally pre order it as I always get enough use out of them over their lifespan to justify the purchase if I don’t use it that often!

That's one thing I hated about Nintendo in the past; usually, every console generation they would radically change the controller design. Where others were using one design and improving it over many years, Nintendo was usually the odd one out.

Just glad they don't tend to do that anymore, at least nowhere near as much as they used to. The Switch design was already really good, just needed significantly faster hardware, and some design improvements. I’m just glad with the Switch 2 they took a good console and improved it, instead of radically changing it for the sake of it.
