YouTube Premium

I've caved and gone for a Premium Family membership. I have three spaces spare after adding the wife and one of my kids. What's the best way of managing selling them on the MM? You can only subscribe monthly to family (annual is only an option for invidiual in the UK for some reason), so my thinking is the options are:

Option 1 - £3.33 per month via standing order with a caveat that it goes up if YT increase prices. Downside is that I have to keep track of people paying each month.

Option 2 - £40 for a year - benefit is less for me to manage but I'd have to suck up any YT price increases (not exactly going to be much if they do). I guess I'd set a reminder to ask after a year if they wanted to do it again or not.

Leaning towards option 1 as there's less risk e.g. if YT clamp down on sharing or something (like Netflix has). I guess if someone stops paying I'll just remove them and sell the slot again...

How have others managed it?
I'd take one of those slots and happily do a year - seems a lot less faff all around, and again only fair that any prices increases would be passed down pro rata to the end of the year (although I thought you could purchase outright so wouldn't get any price increases?).

Both, please see/post in thread in the MM - I don’t want to get in trouble for ‘trading’ outside of it, unless a mod can confirm it’s ok. Been here since I was a child (not far off 40 now ) with a clean record and would like to keep it that way :D

P.S. You can only sign up for premium family on a monthly basis in the UK. You can for individual but not family. Believe you can do it annually in the US for family so have no idea why they don’t allow it here.

Sorry - will take a look shortly!

@Goksly Sorry for not getting back to you earlier but I won't be selling the extra slots after all. As all users can see each other's google account emails it causes issues around consent, which I have to be careful of because of my son. I've just got to suck up the full price.

I've just returned my Firestick to my Samsung (Tizen TV) and installed Smart Tube. I'd forgotten just how nice and simple that app is and it's certainly a keeper. Smart Tube has many settings and features available, more than the standard YouTube app, and with the app automatically updating these days, there's no messing around trying to get things working when YouTube changes things and breaks all the third-party apps and addons etc.

The £16 premium account I purchased recently is also still working fine, I can switch between the app with my account and premium on different devices but sharing the premium login with others has been a godsend, fingers crossed, everything seems to be running smoothly on all fronts!
I had a problem with the YouTube account that I purchased a few months ago, but thankfully, the seller responded to my support message within 3 hours with a new account setup, which works perfectly :)

It's safe to say there are risks involved when buying from a random seller, as expected, but their support was much better than having a problem on YouTube :D The problem was solved much quicker :D

My Firestick is absolutely spot on still, though, there are plenty of updates for SmartTube, and apart from it getting updated, it's had no interruptions.

SmartTube is the way to go if you have a compatible device.

After trying Premium for a few weeks, I have discovered something interesting...

My recommendations feed is much much higher quality. More relevant to what I watch and less filler/random videos.

I've also noticed they're almost all longer form at 20-40 minutes. There's the odd 10 minute video but it's actually harder to idly watch YouTube now because if I have, say, 11 minutes til something comes on TV, I can't find a short video so easily.

I have a theory that this is because YouTube aren't showing me videos with the premise of "cram more adverts in". So instead of showing videos with a lot of ad slots or a lot of short videos to get preroll adverts on, it's just showing me... What their data knows I like.

Its almost suspicious.

I can't say I've noticed my feed changing much. I've noticed recently though I've been getting recommended lots of start up click bait channels. But I just ask it to stop recommending them to me

That really shouldn't be the case unless you're logging into multiple Google accounts on the same device. It's odd that you've found that as it's obviously not designed to work like that at all.

I had a quick look and if you go into your google account settings and the people and sharing section you can see all family members and their email addresses.

Tried brave browser..... chrome and the usual ublock original and pop up blockers and also firefox with ublock origins and the pop ups are still there with all 3 web browsers

Oh right, yes - they'll see the email address not the actual email content which is how I read the post.

Just had an email again telling me they are cancelling my Kazakhstan account as they don't think I'm from there....yet they are again allowing to resign up via Kazakhstan so I may just keep doing it until they kill it for good
