Meta Quest 4 (2026)

Maybe the next headset wont be the Quest4, but the Quest Pro II....

We really need the Pro 2 to be on par or better than the Q4 in terms of compute and better in terms of displays.

The thing that really harmed the Quest Pro apart from the price is the market knew the Q3 was coming with better compute and higher resolution displays and would cost less.

It was basically a souped up Q2 in terms of compute. Maybe if it had come out earlier like it was intended to it might have had a chance. (Apparently delayed a year due to Covid).

Ideally a Quest Pro 2 would launch at the same time as a Q4, basically a Q4 pro, like the Google does with its Pixel phones.

I've taken a break from VR gaming this last several months, and sold my Q3 some time ago. I've enjoyed a lot of the games, and funnily enough the VR-ed versions of original games. But those exist because there isn't enough native development of VR titles. It's still a niche category. I wonder at what point does Meta decide that they can't see a profitable outcome in the future and maybe step back from futher hardware development.

Anyhow, should a Q4 appear and it's a generational improvement, I'll certainly buy it.

I do get fed up of click bait YouTube content. Anyway I don't want Quest 4 I want Quest Pro 2. :p
i want a quest pro 2 as well however it would need to turn the release on its head. instead of having a quest 3 processor at the end of its life powering it, it would need what will be the quest 4 processor in it before it is economically viable for the quest 4... and will need to be fully quest 4 software compatible.

the quest 2 was a failure on multiple levels - partly due to the chip shortage causing a delay i guess.

but its lack of horsepower meaning it cant run Q3 optimised games is a pita , as is its sub par mixed reality (compared to Q3) and again it comes down to its crappy processor from the quest 2.

edit i really should have read more messages before writing the above as its almost a word for word copy of what you wrote later Ravenger!.

I can’t see any need for a quest 4 at the moment. There’s easily another year or two in the quest 3 until they can put out a meaningful upgrade over the existing hardware for similar money.

I presume they will be broadly similar to Q3 in terms of compute, but with much better displays.

all seems to have gone quiet on the Asus Tarius front......... however IF that was OLED, with eye tracking and a proper DP connector, and a decent FOV with a quest 3 compatible processor then i think i would be tempted to jump on that so long as not massively over a grand.

i would hope it either comes with, or is compatible with the meta pro controllers as well.

Rather than trying to birng out new hardware they should probably spend more time sorting bugs in updates and not bricking stuff...
Oh, and not working on new 'features' people don't want would be nice...

a puck could be a good idea, with different specs depending on what your priorities are.

could also mean you could choose to either upgrade your display unit or your compute puck depending on which was holding you back.
