I'm getting some serious love from the BBC, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside..

Careful bro, they onto you.

As time goes on I'm more convinced this is going into general tax.
Almost definitely, but with everything else we're being taxed into oblivion with, that well may be the straw that broke the camels back.
Some taxes I can kind of understand, although I begrudge paying them, but to be forced to pay for a load of London centric half witted lefty group think, nah, they can eat a bag of dicks and look forward to irrelevance.
The sooner the better.

The longer they (labour or whoever is next) leave it the harder time they'll have to change it.

If they change it now, they'll pee off those of us who don't pay. So the tax. Hike would be high. But for people who do pay now the tax won't make much difference.

As more people ditch it, more people will be annoyed.

So let's hope they dawdle. So when it comes it is really contentious

I’m due to renew mine soon. I don’t mind paying to be fair. I put away £16 a month into a savings pot and pay it yearly.

So not a big issue paying it yearly and I’d rather not have the hassle of the BBC sending me love letters.

Well if you need it, carry on paying for it. If you don't need it then don't pay for it just to avoid the hassle of letters.

From the article..

“Under the scheme, the one-size-fits-all annual £174.50 price tag would be scrapped in favour of a progressive payment structure, where wealthier households pay more. Your TV licence would be collected at the same time as Council Tax, with rates linked to property bands.”

So they want to extort us all via council tax instead. The BBC talks like it's criminal to not pay them.

They are doing anything they can to avoid having to be competitive and make quality content. People are cancelling in the millions, but they want to force more people to pay and ever rising fee for junk TV. It won't be popular.

They don’t need to make an effort, there’s money pouring in regardless.
Looking forward to seeing how many didn’t renew last year, and it’ll hopefully increase on the 500K in 2023.

They can do what they like as long as I'm not being forced to pay it somehow.

Also how are they going to keep tabs on this. Are they going to carry out surveys on every licence payer's house? You could just say it's worth £3.50 and it will be on them to prove otherwise.

You will be forced to pay it. The councils already know what council tax band your house is in. You won't be asked to declare it. They want it on the council tax because:

1. The council collects it automatically. You have no option to opt out.
2. The councils already know what band your house is in, meaning they can target arguably more well off people with a much higher price.
3. Not paying it is a criminal offence that is far easier to prove than needing a TV licence.

The concept of tv lincesing is becoming increasingly redundant. Beneficiaries need to find a more suitable and sustainable way to keep benefiting, e.g. a technology tax or a subscription-based model. Then produce good content that people actually want to watch.
