What, they've just tried to launch from halfway down the runway?

Agree, if the FR trace is correct, it didn’t backtrack and had just shy of 1900m TODA. 787-8 is going to need about 50T fuel for that route so take-off weight in the ballpark of 205T. Googling the Boeing Airplane Characteristics, that weight suggests at least 2200m is required.
It would seem extremely odd to mistakenly take the only intersection available though which is half way down the runway rather than a backtrack.
RIP
Dream liner too, this is a big story

This plane was already riddled in scandals, wasn't it?
I'm pretty sure this version of the dreamliner has an excellent safety record but could be wrong.
The only issue I can remember were the batteries.I'm pretty sure this version of the dreamliner has an excellent safety record but could be wrong.
