Air India Crash

Not looking good, but hopefully a good number of survivors.

The plane would have been fully fuelled though.

Looks like loss of power rather than loss of control, but I'm no expert.

What, they've just tried to launch from halfway down the runway?

Im not sure about halfway but here info I just read

Agree, if the FR trace is correct, it didn’t backtrack and had just shy of 1900m TODA. 787-8 is going to need about 50T fuel for that route so take-off weight in the ballpark of 205T. Googling the Boeing Airplane Characteristics, that weight suggests at least 2200m is required.

It would seem extremely odd to mistakenly take the only intersection available though which is half way down the runway rather than a backtrack.

Early reports suggesting:

Plane on limit of max takeoff weight.
Didn't use whole runway (apparently they normally backtrack to end and turn but this went straight out from entrance).
From video, wheels are down and flaps up.
