**Unofficial Tyre Thread**

Looks like the Bridgestone Turanza T005 are being phased out, not many places have got stock of the 185/60R15 84H. Could be hard to get hold of. The Michelin Primacy 4 seems to be widely available still. I wouldn’t mind fitting even my third choice the Continental UltraContact.

It’s not as if I’m driving a 911 at high speeds. Don’t need performance tyres on a Smart car at up to 40 mph. The Continental UltraContact will probably be still available in three years time.

Who knows there might be something even more appealing available then.

Are EV specific tyres a definite go to for an EV?
Or are they just a marketing/money making excerise.

Trying to work out why EV tyres would be designed differently to a conventional road tyre.

On paper rolling resistance and ability to handle the torque of an EV (a lot of regular tyres can be sloppy if you put your foot down with a torquey car), in practise a more complicated story.

Can't speak for the CC3 Sport but I've experience of CC2 on a Navara (228BHP/550Nm), Tiguan R and the Bridgestone all-season 6 on my Qashqai (not a lot of BHP but 320Nm torque) and these style of tyres really don't like even moderately booting it with a lot of torque and would definitely be a mess if you were chucking it around - even still pretty sensible if a little spirited driving shows the limits of these.

I'll be very surprised if they go nicely through a series of chucked in turns with anything that is properly hot.

So after a good 6 months on, some feedback on the CC2s. This car is a simple 1.6D automatic new model 3008, so not a torque monster.

In cold/wet I found them more responsive and grippy than the Primacy 4s. This is during a long trip to France and back. When the rain was slowing cars this easily kept grip. Also the winter/spring mush on country roads helped drip.

The same trip with the same roads over the weekend, but this time in hot heat/sun with greasy roads. I would say they can feel a little numb/squally on fast corners or switching directions. Not uncontrollably but just something to be conscious of (being faster than the Primacy 4s) if being fully committed on a corner at speed.

Still good tyres in my humble opinion.

The Michelin Primacy 4 are about the best tyres I can currently get for my car. I probably won’t need a new set for three years but judging by the fact the Michelin Primacy 3 are still available it doesn’t look like my options will change much in the next three years.

My choices out of the premium brands I’m wanting are…

Michelin Primacy 4 165/65R15 81T and 185/60R15 84T
Continental UltraContact 165/65R15 81H and 185/60R15 84H
Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance 165/65R15 81H and 185/60R15 84H

I’m not interested in cheaper mid range tyres, it’s not a money saving exercise.

Time for me to stick or twist with the Suzuki swift sport zc33 (195/45 R17):

Stick with a new set of the Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 that I’ve had for 2.5 years and ~15k miles

Try the Michelin Pilot Sport 4. They are 3 decibels louder, (70 vs 67), not so good on fuel going (D vs C) and a bit more for a set of four on black circles (£552 vs £508)

Thoughts?

Don't know much about this but I randomly happened to see a video the other day related to this where people who take their Swifts very seriously (modded, etc.) and their recommendation was either the Yokohama Advan series or Conti Sport Contact (5? - not sure if old advice not taking into account 7 or availability or what) for best results with the vehicle.

Bridgestone Turanza 6 any good?

Been using Pilot Sport 4's for ages, no complaints either, but apparently don't have them stocked at the moment, plus they are bloody expensive.

Kinda fancy a change anyway.
