Hi
I just had a parking fine for parking at Aldi for 1h 50 mins. The annoying this is I have a receipt still (by chance) for part of my shop I did there.

Its utter bobbins imo. Apparently it is "clearly signed that the max stay is 90 minutes" and whilst there is signage, given it's on the same land a stones throw from Tesco's where parking is for up to 3 hrs . I didn't think I would have to be on the clock when actually using the store and assumed it was the same rules as Tesco's next door..
It's by parking eye, I could appeal but if I do my fine increases by £30. just wondering if anyone has any experience of appealing these things if they have proof of using the store ?

Thanks.

What on earth were you doing in an Aldi for 2 hours!?
Not really anything you can do, if it was for not registering your car in the store then sometimes the store manager can get it waived for you with proof of purchase but I've never heard them doing it for staying too long.

Raise a complaint with Aldi and tell them to drop it, you’ve got proof etc.

I’ve had this in hotel car parks, always sorted after I contacted the hotel.
What's he proving? The issue is that he overstayed the time limit not that he didn't shop there.

Don't waste your time with the "appeal" process - it means absolutely nothing, it's basically a nefarious industry pretending to police itself. I would raise a complaint with the supermarket though, they're trying to stop people parking in their car park and then going into other shops (or to the football if you live near me!) so they might cut you some slack. Don't waste your time with the parking company though they're essentially bottom-feeding debt collectors.

Apropos of nothing, in a private parking case like this your only obligation is to provide them with the name and a serviceable address of who was driving at the time. So if, for example, your cousin Vinny was visiting from New York you'd need to give them his name and a real address somewhere on the planet. If they don't fancy sending a letter via airmail or if he doesn't respond to them, then it's not your problem - you've discharged your legal obligation and that's the end of your involvement. Worth noting for the future I guess.

Nearly 2 hours in Aldi? Really?
Oh hang on, were you by any chance charging your car for free...

The short answer is I don't see you getting out of this one, so you may as well pay.

And shop at Tesco from now on. And leave Aldi a negative review to let them know their parking duration is not competitive.

I did some other odds and sods as well. yes it is on me for assuming it was the same length allowed as Tesco's next door. but it is pretty crappy given I did do a large shop there. I am lucky I have not been done before tbh as I regularly do my Aldi shop then go for a coffee (or vice versa).

(no I wasn't charging my car there - they don't have em for one and the days of free supermarket charging are long gone - before I got an EV at least)

If you have the time and energy and don't want to pay I would suggest ignoring most of the advice on here and follow the advice here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/parking-tickets-fines-parking

I've done that and been successful (as it seems most are) but it took quite a lot of time carefully reading the stickies in that forum etc.

The first action is to ask Aldi to arrange for it to be cancelled.

The local Aldi to me has this hiding away at the entrance of the car park.
