Gamers, What's Your Audio Set Up?

20:56 - Wed Jun 25
We're processing your parcel at our hub
Our DX5s might be here for the weekend @Raymond Lin

Unrelated, here is another track that has excellent production listening on speakers, the imaging is just superb.

Hopefully it will be here tomorrow, it says it’s at the hub. I almost thought it was today because I had another package form Evri delivered but it was just my numpad.

It has not updated today's status so it could well be out for delivery today/tomorrow I guess

Looks like it will, status change earlier:

Your parcel is at the delivery depot and we'll let you know when it's out for delivery

This means delivery is tomorrow

Found an odd quirk with the PA7 this evening, I thought initially it was my XLR cable as it was only with the left channel. There is a very very very faint high frequency noise coming from the left speaker when nothing is playing. I only noticed when I was wiping the speaker cabinet earlier so my head was right up against the front, it's the kind of sound you might hear from a wall wart power adapter sometimes, only audible up really close like right next to it.

Switched from XLR input to SE and it went away, switched back to XLR it came back, turned the volume knob to the right and it went away.... hang on, it's in bypass mode so why does the volume pot have an affect on this??

Bypass mode maxes out the volume, but it seems the knob is still attenuating on 6the circuit and it's just being clamped out along the board somewhere when bypass is enabled at the switch on the back. It's not a sound I would have heard otherwise if my head was not up against the speaker. Moving the volume dial all the way to max makes the sound go away.

The sound is there in non-bypass mode too if the volume dial is at 25% or below, so definitely a pot attenuation thing.

So to fix it I will just leave the volume dial on max since I am using bypass mode anyway.

It's so faint that I can't even pick it up with my mics set to max gain.

Weird.

Edit* After further testing just now turning off some other devices in the room (projector etc) so the entire room is deathly silent it seems the sound is completely gone if I enable non-bypass mode. It's still there in bypass mode either end of the volume dial, just less audible when the dial ix maxed. It is completely gone in non-bypass mode at any volume setting on the dial.

Thankfully setting the dial to max and flicking the bypass switch on and off with audio playing shows there is zero difference in volume, so I am happy to just leave the switch on normal mode and replicate bypass mode by just maxing the dial. Yeah the noise is so faint I would not hear it sat at the desk, but now that i know it's there it would bother me otherwise.

I win!

(Casing is metal, front facia is metal but the knob is a kind of rubberised plastic)

Nice unit, feels solid, knob turn has a soft notch to it, got UK plug but not turne it on yet.

edit - i think the knob is a rubberised material on metal.

Stop photographing and get reviewing!! :D

I only have IEMs, cheap IEMs with me at work atm….but I will test it later at lunch at least to make sure it works.

Wait, I think the knob might be metal too, I am not quite sure. The front of it is cold to the touch.

There is a new firmware from yesterday so may as well update as it fixes a bunch of issues I saw.

Some folks not liking the release of a new product with so many bugs it seems :o

Should be a fun evening I guess.

Which is the power button?

4. How to update the firmware

1. Connect the power cable to the DX5 II and the power outlet.

2. Connect the device's USB interface to a PC/Mac via a usb cable.

3. Turn off the device with the power switch on the back. Press and hold the power button, then power on with the power switch. The screen will show the current software version.

4. A removable drive will show up in the explorer on PC/Mac. Open the drive.

5. Copy the .Topping file to the root directory of the drive. The drive will then eject itself and reconnect.

6. Reopen the drive. A new file will be showing the current firmware version as "Update successful(Version.Vx.xx)" of which the "XX" is the new firmware version that indicates the firmware is successfully upgraded.

7. Turn off and on the device again. The upgrade is complete.

Volume button is the default power button with Topping

Guess if I do keep it gotta get used to the old fashioned FW update process, spoiled now by OTA updates direct from the amp lol:

My Denon AV amp and Philips TV (6 years old almost) do OTA updates by themselves, it only need a network connection to wifi so it's not really difficult.

Dropping files into a folder is very last gen.

Fiio K11 used to have to folder updates on that via USB. I guess it would add to the cost to anything more fancy. Looks nice in white.
