Oh god, they're worse that I thought.

I'm an Aussie and an Oscar fan of course and even think that was pretty stupid to brake that hard in those conditions. He was clearly the fastest driver on the track max wasn't getting past so he didn't need to pull that. Don't know what he was thinking. Asking the team to switch places was a bit cringe as well.

Oh well hopefully he will live and learn from this.

You can brake under the safety car, you cannot brake-TEST
Let’s face it, that’s what he did
Why would you brake test someone in those conditions lol. He literally had nothing to gain from it which is probably why he is so annoyed. He probably just over egged it (shown from the data). Max barely braked and hence made it look much more dangerous.

Crazy how this has caused all this uproar yet a few years ago it was totally fine for p2 to be alongside p1 on a SC restart :p

To be clear I’m not arguing either way. It seems harsh on Oscar but to strip Lando of the win now would be even more harsh. It is what it is. Like I said I think Oscar is just annoyed with himself.

Well his leg well and truly stood on the brake pedal, hence the penalty.

****. That wasn't remotely a brake test, nor was it standing on the brakes, F1 brakes take way more force than that.

The penalty seems fair but let's not exagarate this.

I don't think he intentionally tried to brake test Max; why would he? It's not like the George incident where he was immediately on the radio, etc.

From the on-board you can see Oscar accelerate and then brake, like they all do to keep temp in the brakes and tyres, but as he started braking the SC lights went off, which was pretty late in the lap IMO, and that seemed to catch him off-guard.

What he did was dangerous and deserved a penalty, but I don't think it was intentional/malicious and rather just unlucky timing with the SC.

I'd love to know if FIA officially announced the safety car coming in very late just before the incident that resulted in Piastri's penalty.

It certainly felt it at the time from the CH4 commentators, normally I'd expect the announcement to happen less than half way around the lap.

The incident happened just after the Maggots/Becketts complex, which is more like ~66% around the lap.

The previous SC was sooner, which is why I think they all expected another lap.

Not a huge Max fan, but I thought that was no way he should get a penalty as Oscar had braked far too hard - not at all suprised to see Oscar get the penalty.

I did think that it put the stewards in a difficult position - penalty for Oscar=Lando win; British bias at the British GP.

Great to see Hulk on the podium though.
