Online coffee beans retailer

I've been ignoring Rave for so long (prefer Redber) that they've spammed me with enough codes to collectively get £15 off, so I bought £30 of beans that should tide me over Xmas.

2x 250g of Monsoon Malabar
2x 250g of Chatswood Blend (because I can't recall what this tasted like when I bought it before but the description sounded good)

Christmas coffee has arrived at parents place. Couple of bags from UE Coffee Roasters and a couple from a local roaster, Kofra Coffee.

Going with one I know really well from Kofra. Drunk plenty of it recently. It's called Joy. Not a immensely complex coffee, but after all the heavy food we're having this year it sounds pretty much perfect. We've worked out that we're having 5 Christmas meals in 4 days.... I may explode.

UE has some interesting choices, went with a bag of Hullabaloo which is a blend with one of the coffee's being cinnamon infused. Sounds Christmassy to me. Other was Tanzania Mondul, which sounds a lit more acidic and lighter.

Also have some frozen Origin coffee that I'll be taking with me too. Origin Coffee's San Fermin. Not available anymore but it's a lovely chugable brew. it was vac sealed and frozen the day it arrived. Tried another bag of it from around the same time and it still brews great. :D

Just a minor rant. I opened up one of the Monsoon bags this morning and decanted it to my coffee tin. A large amount of the bottom of the bag was small chopped up beans. I've never seen this before so its a tad annoying when I measure out my beans on the scales as the bits go everywhere.

Ozone is nowhere as good as Hasbean was. It really does seem like quality has dropped since Steve left. :( Just can't recommend them anymore.

Currently getting most of my coffee from Square Mile, Origin, Strangers and Kofra.
I'm really enjoying Square Mile and origin - I used to just buy generic stuff from Coffee Direct but got a bit bored of their coffees.

I get various coffee shops and roasters on my social media accounts as that's what I search for. An offer of 30% off came up a few days ago from Routes Coffee, I believe the code '10YEARS' works until the end of this month. So I bought 4x 250g SO which should last me through March.

Hopefully their coffee is as good as their service..

Look forward to trying it in the morning.

Just placed next order with Hormozi. Gone for their Royal blend this time.

Their 1kg prices are really hard to beat especially when they include postage. Had a 10% off code from my previous order which made it even cheaper.

Yea I'm still using them, I generally go Royal blend as well, you just can't go wrong when factoring in the price the coffee is good.

I've tried other places now and then I don't notice any major improvements to warrant what some of these places charge.

I'm always happy to support local roasters if I can but none of them can compete price wise sadly. Other online roasters then want postage on top of the beans themselves. I know they have to cover costs but if Hormozi can do it for this price then...

The Mexico SHG beans we’re using from Hormozi at the moment are incredible. Easily some of the best we’ve ever had.
Just looked at their website and their coffee offer seems incredibly gimmicky, seemingly hundreds of different options and daft flavours. A bit like a restaurant that offers hundreds of different options on its menu rather than a few really good dishes.

Of course that’s my perception and I’m open to being persuaded to buy but when you say they are good what are you comparing them too? Also half the price of my usual offer so seems too cheap to be good?

Good compared to Rave, Tank and Union I've tried them all plus more.
Not sure what is gimmicky they just have lots of choice.

I think I know what he means. When I first got into coffee I was intrigued by things like "Blueberry flavoured coffee beans". It isn't the coffee that I was interested in, it was the infused flavour, it's a gimmick to entice people who isn't there to buy good quality beans for the flavour of the coffee but the infused flavour to the bean.

The former places good quality beans at the forefront, the latter place the flavour of the infused flavour first.

They have things such as "Frosted Donut Flavoured Coffee" or "Toffee Popcorn Flavoured", and there are over 100+ in the range, vs 21 in Rave and 13 in Square Mile or my local Method at 14.

Of course, it doesn't mean they are bad coffee but the signs points to them not placing speciality coffee in the same vein as what speciality coffee roasters usually go for. Judging from the size of their range, they must be able to sell enough, hence the scale of the operation must be a lot larger than the others which could explain also the lower cost, along with the cheaper beans the begin with (but totally a guess on my part). But they certainly are not buying £30 a kg Geisha beans for their Toffee Popcorn that's for sure!

I imagine it's a smart way to upsell beans that aren't selling or are about to go past their best.
Them selling lots of different flavours or beans direct take away the fact they are a good bean roaster, I've never been disappointed.

Sometimes I wish I never changed jobs. My old office was about 10 minutes from Wogan's roastery in Bristol. Got to know the staff well enough they'd often save special beans for me if they were running low or often I'd just ask for a weight and they'd give me a random set of beans.
Thanks for this, it has been a while since I got any coffee (been on a tea kick) and this lot are in walking distance.

Raymond put it well. After scrolling through ‘every weird and wonderful flavour’ I got the impression they very much favour quantity over quality.

If as you suggest they are trying to use up old beans then they must have a lot of old beans to use up. A huge red flag for me anyway.
