Commodore Amiga owners thread!

That is quite incredible. He is so enthusiastic about the future of Commodore. I really hope he can realise that. I would definitely be interested in buying a "new" Commodore.

Yes, and at what price? Call me a sceptic but look at other "pseudo Commodore" like 8 Bit Guy's Commander X16... not many sold, VERY expensive, very little software. Unfortunately our youths HAVE been and gone.... :(

I'm hopeful. Let's see what they come up with. I'm not sure what I actually want from them but if it's something that duplicates functionality with my mister then I'll be disappointed.

yeah I heard about this a while ago but then watched the videos this evening. If you watch his last few vid's this guy is a Commodore Megafan and says many times the intention was not to buy Commodore and then push out endless Commodore "toys" to make a fast buck but treat it with respect and is dedicated to keeping the fan base involved. He also has got some of the original employees who worked on the CBM 64/128 etc involved eg David Pleasance is involved who was a former CBM MD in the UK, one of the original Tech Support guys on the CBM64, one of the co-creators of the CBM64 and a few others. Saying that the C64x he rates in one of the video's is around £400. Although it looks really good and is based on an original Commodore design made by previous owner of the Commodore brand who sadly died. They basically took his half completed work and finished the product.

Thought this might be of interest in here:

I did see the two videos he released on this - very lucky and well done. And I remember he talked about obtaining 47 trademarks, but it wasn't clear to me if that included the Amiga? I.e. as well as any new C64 (if they did release something), could they also include a new Amiga computer?

Don't think it includes Amiga

Gateway bought everything Commodore related in the late 90's and then split Amiga off into its own brand which was then sold off. Company called Amiga Corporation now owns the IP though its not related to the original Amiga Corporation and they don't seem to be doing anything with it apart from court cases with makers of AmigaOS

That's a shame. I had a hunch that the Amiga and Workbench OS rights were still messy and maybe that should be a future endeavour for this new Commodore group. To try and get ownership of the Amiga.

This looks like the new commodore machine.

Looks like an FPGA c64. Like the Analogue FPGA consoles for SNES, N64 etc.

Sadly it's as I feared, just a replication of features I get in a mister but in a c64 case.

Yep!

His Youtubber simps are lapping it up.

Also confirmed not coming as an Amiga

Just a FPGA C64 in a case with pretty leds!

Think I'll stick to the C64 Maxi I have

It's a shame. I really do want the new Commodore company to succeed so I hope it sells well. Fingers crossed it's just a safe first step before establishing something a bit more risky/exciting.

Just out of interest what is it people want from the new Commodore?

  • New chip based C64's?
  • Totally new computers like the Commander X16?
  • Or more mainstream emulation based machines; like THEC64/Mini?
  • New PC's that use Commodore's cases?
  • Or just to be much more relaxed on licensing so the community can release viable products?
  • Or all of the above?

Think all of these things have been done in the past tbf. I suppose the downside to this new C64 is the likely cost isn't going to be cheap, but I think that was probably always inevitable. For me the most interesting thing on the horizon is probably the new RGL Amiga 1200 Maxi because it won't cost silly money and be enough for what I likely need to have something physical and useful for playing Amiga games. But then I've already got a MiSTer so tend to have the more accurate options covered.

I've just ordered the new Ultimate C64, as it's actually a pretty big upgrade from the Maxi if you have any original peripherals and carts. The main thing is has the original C64 ports so I can connect it to my 1702 monitor, plus it should have less input lag.

Trouble is brewing. An Italian company are claiming the Commodore name and logo is theirs. From what I understand it 8 years ago they went and registered the Commodore name, logo etc and because no one disputed the claim it went through now they want to sue the Youtube guy for copyright infringement etc. I think the original dutch rights owner didnt know anything about this Italy claim so it didnt get contested.

Mr. Christian Simpson (alias ‘Peri Fractic’) recently made statements on his YouTube channel, at different times, which were picked up by numerous media outlets and various newspapers, aimed at undermining our position, claiming to have ‘bought Commodore’ and describing our use of the trademark as ‘illegitimate’.

None of the initiatives launched in the United States give Mr Simpson the right and/or power to cancel or revoke our legitimate rights to the above trademarks.

Such claims are not only legally unfounded, but also compromise the truth and unjustifiably discredit a business project that has invested time, resources and expertise in relaunching the Commodore brand in a modern and technologically advanced way.

Meanwhile this Italian company for last 8 years has been making Windows laptops and slapping a Commodore logo on or something like that and running "acadamies" or some such and making mobile app games.

Apparently it's not really an issue. The same company tried to stop the kickstarter for another Commodore licensed product (licensed from the previous owners of the IP), but it was found they had no case, so the kickstarter went ahead anyway.

As far as I know, the new Commodore, owned by Christian Simpson is the legal owner of all the Commodore trademarks and IP. The project is still going full steam ahead.
