Hi All,

Sorry for two threads! But, as you can see about to pull the trigger and grateful for help.

Can anyone find an actual comparison between
The Samsung Frame
2024 vs 2025

Note, this is not for the Pro.

There are some 2024 Frames still available at a bit of a discount. But wondered if it was worth paying that bit more.

Thanks

I know this is the Pro, but it might help you...
The thing is...

The TCL is rubbish. Screen not great. No.motion sensory is bizarre. It's na incomplete art TV.

HiSense is good...IF...you live in North America, which uses Google OS. In Europe, it uses VIDAA OS, what does this mean? It means you can have a total of 30 of your own photos loaded onto the TV, that it. You cannot use a USB stick as extra storage. It basically is not fit for purpose and is a total joke.

So, our only option in the UK is Samsung The Frame.

Usually minor differences between the yearly releases, I think between the 2023 and our 2024 relating to power usage and additional frame rate options.

I did read the software was buggy before purchasing, it's been decent for the most part but it definitely has some rare moments where it goes nuts. And Channel's 4 app doesn't work on Frame TVs for some reason. I know TV buffs don't rate them but we love ours, it looks like a piece of art and for the content we watch - does a great job.

TCL and HiSense are proven to usually use the exact same screen, so a HiSense definitely isn't better - I had a high end HiSense last year (that promptly broke) and my mate was recommending a TCL, I ended up putting the specs into google, and found out it was the same screen... Which explained why when I looked into it both experienced the same issues. Obviously there will be some that are independent to either brand, but I'm not so sure I believe that now after doing a fair bit of comparisons.
VIDAAS OS is awful.
As for playing media off a USB that wasn't the case on either of my HiSense, be it the one from 4 years ago or last years model, there was something like a 1TB or 2TB limit to the storage size attached, and that was about it, I had loads of stuff on it for when I couldn't be bothered to have the PC fired up attached to it.

Thanks.

Even Richer Sounds were stunned when the Hisense rep told them that the Canvas TV has a 30 photo limit. It's nuts.

What I don't understand is when MANY of the screens are the same, and usability and ease of use are therefore critical, why they make proprietary OS's that always promptly go out of date and lack functionality.

Have they learned nothing from Android, Apple and Windows Phone...
Microsoft could have produced the best phone in the world, but on Windows Phone it wouldn't matter.

It's why I keep thinking Sky Glass. The Sky Stream seems really good. Sky historically have had brilliant UI for Television watching.

You're welcome.
Me and my mate were both using Richer Sounds for the TCL/HiSense, and yeah pretty much every model at the time last year was the same panel on both, the only thing the TCL was better at was a claimed higher Nits - however, both the TCL and HiSense in professional reviews majorly fall short of their claimed peak Nits, and at HDR at laughable and shouldn't be allowed to even wear that branding! Washing out the colours is putting it lightly, so if you're wanting an HDR screen, forget either brand.

Also, Toshiba is just a HiSense with a different badge, even the chassis is the same, a quick Google proved my suspiscions correct.

I think they just don't care, I've had 4 high end TV's break in the last 8 months, some developing dead pixels either on arrival or within days, 1 the screen just dying but the sound working, and the last one had the entire horizontal part of the screen have a 4-6 row tall dead pixel, which met with a vertical inch size red line of stuck pixels... Nice huh. Nothing seems to be made to last like the older 1080P screens from 2008 onwards, of which I've seen last 15 or more years even after passing them onto friends!

The guy who collected each of my faultly TV's for both Richer Sounds and John Lewis, put it simple, "they're all ****, they all break, if you get this one back, it'll do it again in a year, next time buy a Sony, they don't bother replacing the screens in them when they break as it's not cost effective, so just give you a new TV!" - I know the guy on a first name basis now after 4 TV's in a row 3 from Richer Sounds 1 from John Lewis...

I think the only reliable TV now from the sound of it, is if you spend thousands on an OLED, and it will be thousands as I want a 65" or above, I certainly will not be downgrading the size. These fancy IPS/VA QNED/QLED quantum dot mini LED 120Hz ALLM, VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro 'gaming' TV's I've had, are all junk, and have been well north of £1500, one of the LG's was £1900 and was on sale, it failed in 6 days with multiple dead pixels in different places!

Sorry, I had to laugh....you being on a first name basis with the guy picking up broken TVs is indeed crazy.

On that front, purely based on brand, Samsung have served us pretty well and taken a good beating, but that I mean children's projectiles, and it's loved. Or various house moves.

It's a shame things have gone this way, but when the market is flooded, we should probably start buying the cheap stuff from Temu.

At some point there'll be a reminder about the environment....

Haha, it's fine, we both laugh, he literally greets me like an old friend each time, and even remembers our previous conversations
He even stayed for 20 minutes at the beginning of the month when collecting the most recent faultly TV, he was keen to check out my PC and my new car - even remembered me saying I was going to upgrade the PC and get X car etc :P, and turns out he's a big gamer, as is his son.

He's the best thing that's come out of this inconvienience to be fair.
The funny thing is this last one broke at the same time as last year, so we obviously made the usual "fancy seeing you here" type jokes like last time :P

Interesting, I've red nothing but bad things on the reviews for John Lewis and Richer Sounds for Samsungs, just over priced and dull dimmer screens that end up failing after a year or so? My mate has one where a quarter of the screen is duller than the other? Weird.

If you've had good luck with them and are happy with what you see versus the price, that stick with that brand :)

Yeah the waste created is ridiculous, I mean at this point I must have my own plot of land TV graveyard at the landfill for my failed faulty TV's

I am tempted to tell them to stick it this time and just buy a 4K OLED monitor, and even bigger/longer desk and not have a TV in this room, and keep my existing 1440P monitor and dual wield

You must find it, stick a flag in it, and claim that section of your TV landfill as your own.

It is a bit bizarre, but I think we'd be staying into the vagaries of capitalism why most products these days don't last...

It is slightly ridiculous, I feel like something should be done about it. But then, quickly give up, as what would be the point.

It essentially the whole point of this thread - why have Samsung bought out a new frame TV, is it any different from the last one?

I don't see the need for a new feature every year, in fact it might be absolutely pointless, but such is the way of things.

Mate it's getting geotagged on Google Maps, I'll be charging them rent and royalties.

Yeah I agree.

True!

It's a different because it has the current or next years year after the name ;) DUH! LG love to do that :P

I just want a TV that works without having to spend 3-6K on an OLED to get one in the size I currently have, oh wait HAD

I will be sad when he doesn't turn up each month/year - 3 TV's in 1 month and then this one lasted 8 months :P
I guess once I get one that does last - IF it does, I'll just sabotage it when I start missing him, I did say I'd get him a key cut if I keep seeing him :D

He's got to at least be on the Christmas card list!

Ive recently bought a Samsung 65" QN95D and, while its only been 2 months, I have been very happy with it, obviously only time will tell and my old Sony 1080p that it replaces was indeed a tank and after 13 years is still going strong. But in terms of picture quality the Samsung mini LED is a massive improvement. None of my other Samsung TVs have caused any problems and are going strong and were much cheaper...I have hope this one will do just as well...

Didnt go for the OLED as it doesnt really suit my use and its in a really bright room

Nice, I see very mixed experiences with them, which always surprises me as the do make some really good stuff, fingers crossed for you dude, and yeah, 1080P TV's were built to outlast humanity I swear

@rossyl saw my new best mate on Thursday ;) he brought it back with a new screen, then said "see you next year when it breaks again, it WILL!"
I did celebrate by finally wall mounting it though, it was a bit too high at first, but I remembered the arms or whatever they're called that mount to the back of the TV itself, have multiple holes for adjustment, versus just being for different VESA sizes. It is perfect now, for now
