Hi all,

Long time PC and Xbox gamer here. I've bought a PS5 Pro today as I've always wanted to play The Last of Us Part 1 and Part 2.

Had a look online to see what price TLOU Part 1 was and was looking to download it or buy a CD Key for it. I've bought keys for Xbox games before and it's simply a case of going to 'redeem a game code', entering the code and downloading.

However, I've had a look at game codes for TLOU Part 1 and a lot of them say you receive a code to another PSN account, download it and then switch back to your own account to play it.

How does that work? Is it safe to do so?

Cheers.

I wouldn’t touch these account sharing things with a bargepole. On console you either buy through the official store, or buy physical.

Those were my thoughts too, all seemed a bit strange and unclear.

So with the PS5, you can't just purchase a download code from third party sellers, like you can with the Xbox? Your choices are either buying a physical disc or downloading from the official store?

As far as I know. I wouldn’t risk the account sharing sellers.

As far as I know you can still buy PS5 games, by buying keys and activating them on the PSN store. No different to any other store.

But yes as @mid_gen says.. stay away from account purchases.

example here for spiderman remastered key.. https://www.cdkeys.com/marvels-spider-man-remastered-ps5-eu

TLOU part 1 is part of PlayStation plus extra I think in case you’re thinking of subbing at least short term

Just finished setting up the console, PSN account, payment methods etc and went for the Premium account.....then noticed exactly that - it's included with the subscription :)

Cheers, yes I'd happily buy a game code to redeem from Cdkeys, thanks for confirming that is able to be used.

Will definitely stay away from account sharing games.

Have to say that having played Xbox for many years, the PS5 Dashboards will take a bit of getting used too!

Safest, and best way, to acquire games on the "cheap" for Playstation is to purchase PSN gift cards from the likes of CDKeys eg. you can get a £70 gift card for £62.99. Then just redeem the gift card on your PSN account. I use reward points for further savings but that scheme is being shut down soon. Unfortunately, individual key sales are much more limited compared to Steam.

psdeals.net or similar to track digital prices - pick things up when on sale

but psplus premium should keep you going for a while :D.
remember to claim the monthly games each month.. you can collect them and will be in your library for as long as you have an active subscription

You generally can't buy digital PS5 games from anywhere except the PS Store, the main exception being people selling codes for games that were included in console bundles.

ShopTo are often cheaper, £60.85 for £70 and if you make enough purchases from them you get a bigger discount.
