In some ways the Matchplay is the tournament with the most heritage as it's been at the Winter Gardens since day one back in 1994. Winner got £10k back then, there's £200k on offer to the winner this time!

Also the purest format of the game, straight legs over a long format. You're not turning a match around with a couple of quick bursts like you can in set play.

I do prefer set play to be honest. It creates drama,twists and turns. I liked the way the did it in the masters best of 3 legs.

Van Veen got a tough one wouldnt be surprised if he turns up and Humphries falls off.
