Before I kick up a fuss - I wanted to check with some other people whether they agree this is a paint defect? The coating seems to be coming off on the rear and even inside the boot.

2024 eletre R in black. Only ever been washed by lotus and myself (with the lotus provided cleaning kit)

Looks more like overspray, in terms of texture and haze and finish - possibly the result of a smart repair which isn’t uncommon on a new car.

Overspray of clearcoat is usually matte in appearance, compared to the gloss of the paint, but also not usually that noticeable.

It honestly looks to me like the person had residual clearcoat on their gloves and touched the bumper, leaving prints, rather than it being outright overspray, as there’s a lot of it.

Hard to tell on a photo but I’d personally polish that with a microfibre pad and a medium/heavy cut compound such as Meguiars Microfibre Compound (D300), then refine.

I’d be taking it back and asking them to rectify it in your position.

thanks for the advice. For further reference I picked the car up in July 2024 and it’s only just started showing this week.

Hmmm that’s really weird. Let me have a ponder.

Can’t imagine that factory paint would exhibit issues like this so the only thing I can think of at the moment is a poor quality smart repair.

Thanks for the thoughts. It’s had a smart repair, but on the front left not boot. So light have been the dealer before sale, which if so, it might be a pain to back to the initial dealer.

As this has only appeared after quite a period of time, personally that looks like minor etching, which could be from water deposits, cleaning products etc.. Or just a build up of cleaning products on the surface, there are lots of modern products that can leave quite a residue when you have standing water on horizontal surfaces.

I'd just try something like the G3 Pro paint renovator by hand on that, this will just give a gentle 'cut' and polish and see if it diminishes things..

We've got a similar hazy mark, all be it more uniform in appearance, on our Polo that had a repair after my wife backed it into our wall. I'd take it back to the place that fixed it as it was only done about 10 months ago but they sold up and there is a new company operating from their premises.

What is really strange with ours is that is will appear and disappear, not sure if it's humidity or temperature that causes it to show up.
