I’m buying a house and planning a velux balcony window in the bedroom. It has a dormer and just looking to replace the standard window with one of these to better see the view. Has anyone had one installed? Any tips? Worth it?

Looks to be about £8k fitted. Anyone had one?

Also thinking about a Juliet balcony which may be cheaper?

They seem really expensive but look good. Can't really offer much other than that :p.
Haha, yea that’s kind of what I thought. I need to research prices of a Juliet balcony to see what cost difference there is.
Do you see that you will use it quite a lot?
Tbh, probably not. But, it would allow me to see the sea from my bed, I think. Which would be lovely. It’s probably a very expensive solution and I’d be better just putting in a big window!
I don’t move in for a while yet so very much just research atm.

A floor to ceiling window would achieve the same at a significantly lower cost?

Surely if it has a dormer then this won't work as the Velux unit impersonates a dormer shape, in the roof slope?

Big window ftw. Warmer and you can have flooring of your choice under it.

I dont want to dissuade you if a Velux balcony is your dream, but I can think of a lot of better things to spend 8k£ on :p.

i'm a big fan of floor to ceiling windows, we've got a couple in our house and they're ace.

You get the benefit of it every day without having to open anything.

I have a balcony with patio doors and it's wonderful and annoying.
I sit out there occasionally and it's lovely. However, the biggest issue is that while it's nice sitting out there I much prefer to have a lot of airflow at night time (as it's a loft room) but I can't have the door open and keep the curtains closed. If I had the choice again I'd change it to perhaps have bigger windows at the side, perhaps opening half way/

Sounds expensive, but you are cutting into the existing dormer rather than just the roof.

We had a Velux Cabrio balcony, which although different compared to yours, was a cracking bit of kit to maximise the coastal views.
