getting the carpets out - as said - is best, but if you cut them so that you can easily slide both newspapers or old towels beneath them I found that helped massively;
eventually removing it - unbolting and lifting out the seats after disabling seat belt tensioners was hardest bit, had to cut carpet at the bulkhead as I wasn't ready to take
out the passenger compartment radiator, placed inboard of the edge.
