Images of items I have purchased (except trainers [no feet pics])

£38 for these: CBN lathe tool inserts. These will cut even hardened tool steel and it's amusing to see sparks and red hot (glowing!) chips coming off when turning in the lathe. CBN is better than diamond in this case because, although slightly softer, it is far more resistant to high temperatures. It's harder than carbide but diamond is the better option for that.

What do you make with these?

I ordered these specifically to correct the tapers on cheap ER chucks which had excessive runout, ordinary tooling (carbide) won't give a good enough finish and often chip in the process which is a disaster. Also drill chuck arbours I need to adapt from commercially available blanks. That, plus anything else I've machined and is already hardened. So not a lot of uses for me personally which is why I never bothered investing in them before, but prices have tumbled dramatically and such tooling is now available for the home workshop at modest cost.

I meant what do you make with your tools :) I presume it will be some high precision mechanical parts?

Quit my job and got myself a one way ticket. Gonna go study the language for a few months whilst I figure out my next steps.

Hoping to be able to make a life out there, will see what happens!
I am sure you are purchasing more than a plane ticket, you are buying a dream. A very sweet dream with many happy endings :)

@ChrisLX200 this is the metal workshop at the Natural History Museum. These guys are phenomenal, they make all the animatronic stuff, I'm like a kid in a candy store in there :D

Yeah that looks great, I'm always jealous of folk with big areas to put machines, I'd certainly have more if I had the room. Carefully measured up a Bridgeport but it just wouldn't fit.

I have just enough room to swing a cat around in my shed

I don’t like that workshop tho, why so untidy? Is not as if they are rushing projects. Or am I just a tidy freak

You are right it is very untidy. Maybe because several people use the machines and leave it to someone else to clean up! Mine gets messy when I'm working on something but I do clean up afterwards, I'd never find anything otherwise.

Just finished installing that 5C collet chuck. Got fed up with trying to tappy-tap-tap it into alignment so came up with another solution. I don't know if these short vid clips will load..

Edit: No not directly, but it will if you click on the images..

so the alignment play is reduced by exploiting some play in the bolts onto the backplate.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention and is one that will probably play on my mind for at least the next 2 minutes, or until I finish my nice fizzy drink while using my V8 Animal to do the inside of my Cybertruck.
