EV general discussion

Nice to see a proper dash with no stupid tablet looking screen sticking up like it was added as a afterthought.

Although I agree with you about a proper dash with dials etc, I think the modern cars with their big screens can't be seen as an afterthought anymore. It's quite deliberate - they help considerably with the myriad of settings modern cars seem to have. Plus a bigger display means more information, better satnav and the piece de resistance, watching Disney with the lad while charging :D.

Whenever I think I'm not doing too bad in life all I ever need to do is take a quick visit to OCUK to realise the poor scum that I actually am

Meanwhile in the land of peasantry, I've fallen hook line and sinker for Tesla's sales tactics. I though the salesmen and I were friends... Prior to ordering, no question was too big or small. They gave a super chilled and laidback vibe by offering me a 24 hour test drive and would respond to any question I had within 30-60 minutes.

Once they got my £200 reservation fee you think I've ever had an answer back from any question I've ever sent? Have I F!

My 2023 Cupra Born has none of those annoyances. LKA is very subtle, bings and bongs for speed limit can be turned off and the safety features are not noticed until needed. Same for my 2022 I-Pace and 2023 C40.

Sorry but there are plenty of modern cars with modern safety features that are not in any way obtrusive.

All of your cars are too old to be impacted. The law changed mid-2024 so that you cannot permanently turn off the bings and bongs, they will re-activate every time you start the car. a 74 plate Cupra Born will not be the same as yours for this.

With our 25 plate, the mandatory speed warning noise is two low, and quite subtle, bongs, and that's it. It only sounds if you exceed the limit by a couple of MPH, and after that there's no further noise....it just keeps the speed limit display sign highlighted. I was preparing myself to be annoyed by this feature, but to be honest, it's really not been an issue - to the point where I'm not even sure if it can be switched off even temporarily, because I haven't really bothered to look too hard.

Lane keep assist can be permanently set so it's just a subtle vibration through the wheel with no audio. I've only felt it a few times on the motorway when getting lazy about indicating a lane change, I don't recall it ever activating on a narrow country lane because it only activates above about 40MPH or something (I think).

Don't get me wrong, I was dreading having to deal with lots of overbearing safety stuff when I knew we were getting a new car, but so far it's really not been obtrusive or annoying. I guess implementation might differ between manufacturers.

Don't be - when I went to collect, there was a brand new 992.2 GT3 in Ruby Star, which the owner, from London (who has a second home near us), ordered last year, on allocation. He turned up to collect, didn't like the colour and walked away...

Fair enough but my post was in relation to the comment that all cars in the past 10 years had excessive nannying. They objectively don’t.

What is it with high performance cars and P Zeros. Useless things in all but perfect conditions. Lovely car btw. Top of my list if I drove more.
there must be different versions of them, i had pzeros on a previous car and they were useless but on my wife's model Y performance that i have pushed very, very hard even in adverse conditions i've been mightily impressed by them.

We'll probably be an ICE free house at some point, just waiting to understand who "someone" is in our house, as the wife keeps telling me that "Someone needs to ring the dealers up and sort out test drives of different cars for me".....

No Ice, No Ice, baby .

need to see a picture of Django's car in full sunlight to appreciate that nice colour it seems

saw someones r5 review getting 4.8m/kwh on motorway at nsl - with increased efficiency cars, the cost of public charging will have less impact.

Didn’t watch but comments are wondering what it would do at 70. So when you say ‘on the motorway’ was he sat at 55mph? Edit. Oh wow he’s sat 55-60 on the motorway as he doesn’t want to waste time charging. That’s not the nsl?

The R5 isn’t magically aerodynamic to beat physics. What put me off and ended up cancelling order was the range. Hence the 79kwh born. My v2 does 3.9 at 73mph on the cruise on my regular 190mile trip. R5 wouldn’t do that on a full charge (with cheap electric )
