Just back from town, with my new girls.. custom fit on the 54 and 60 wedges, and 5-GW custom fit on the DynaPwr Forged irons. Also stuck int here I took a punt at a brand new Srixon driving iron from GolfClubs4Cash..

Gorgeous clubs and at a very affordable price, weather sucks here atm  but might head to the range, if not tomorrow has to happen!

Also showing some support for Doddie Weirs foundation for MND with a golf towel with the text "No Laying Up".

This time last year, was one of my last posts in this thread.

Handicap was 13.4 back then.
Currently down to 11.8

Slowly coming down, bit by bit, but playing much less now that I've changed club and dont quite have that drive/love for the game as what I did last year. Going on a golf holiday to portugal next month, so lets hope that springs me back into action!

Had a dive down the Zero Torque rabbit hole, read up about it, watched YouTube review on the Odyssey square to square range. Tried one, don't get the fuss.. Reckon it's a gimmick

What sort of putter do you currently use?

It could well be that your stroke just doesn't work with those types of putters. I only say that as I tried various different styles of zero torque putters and couldn't get comfortable with them either but I have seen other people be fitted to them, so I don't agree it is a gimmick

I impulse-bought a Spider ZT this week and had it out for its maiden voyage yesterday (an hour on the practice green at lunch and 10 holes last night).

Absolutely loving it so far, point and shoot. Holed loads. Just felt so stable and repeatable, and a brilliant feel / excellent lag putts as well.

I've been really struggling this year, combination of eyesight issues (a vitreous detachment), basically loads of artefacts in one eye and distortion, coupled with issues with my stroke this year, it's not been like yips more like I've been fighting the stroke and it's resulted in very inconsistent lines/dispersion.

It took me a couple of days to get used to the look of the putter, will be interesting how it fares over the next few weeks but for the moment my first impressions couldn't be any more positive.

Maybe it's like a marmite thing, works for some folk but not for others @ChroniC

I have had the same irons for just over a year now mate, I love them, down to 12.4 for 24 with them.

I'm thinking I may trade them for the staff models next year as my iron striking is really improving. They have been fantastic irons for me!

Nice going mate!

Yeah the staff models are some sexy looking irons for sure man.

Odyssey RLine Mallet.

I think it absolutely nuts to pay £450 quid for a putter.

To be fair - Use a putter 25-35 times a round....Yet people pay don't think about paying £500 for a driver and use it 3-7 times a round.

I paid £200 for my Scotty Cameron 19 years ago - Unreal value as still use it today.

Worst round of the year on Saturday (gross 87 !!! +16) - Been coming - ball striking is terrible at the moment. Just no clubface control and swinging miles across the line at the moment. It's awful. Need to practise for sure but weather warnings tomorrow so doubt I'll get out.

Did start with a birdie at the 1st mind you (42nd of the year in comps!) - after that was terrible.

Got a quarter final tie on Tuesday night against a 1 handicapper... Tough one for sure. Need to find something!

"Accidentally" booked a fitting for the new Titleist irons in 10 days time.... My Mizuno's must have found out - bent my 8 iron on Saturday hitting from a tree route!! Maybe it's a sign!

Been away for a week on a family holiday, we stayed at a place just north of Haverfordwest way over near the south-west coast of Wales. I think I mentioned a bit ago that my oldest nephew got into golf about 6 months or so ago and my youngest has also been keen to get clubs and try so I did two things, for the youngest I bought a cheap set of junior clubs (he's 10, almost 11) for just under £40 and then looked around at courses and found/decided on St. Davids City GC for a couple of reasons.

Bit of a side note but the junior clubs I bought for some reason had a full length putter (~35 inches) so having never regripped a putter I bought a cheap new grip and got out the power tools, cut it down to ~30 inches which is arguably still a bit long for him but hey. Fitted the grips with the compressed air method and seemed to work well enough. Actually now thinking of cutting down one of my putters as I do 'hunch' over the putter so often gripping down at the bottom of the grip...

Anyway, St. Davids City GC is a 9-hole links course which has an honesty box system, which you can now do online, so given there were the 2 kids and also my stepdad plays a bit they did an offer of £200 for a 'family' (2 adults + 3 kids) for 7-days, I was planning to play a fair bit so went for that. Ended up playing 3 days with all 4 of us doing 9-holes and then I played solo for 18. Could've maybe done an extra 2 days but we did other stuff too, either way it seems reasonable really.

Course was good though, not the longest but the wind made up for that, also played across an incline so some holes weren't long as such but were decently uphill. Greens were decent and pretty fast, 2 holes have 2 flags for front/back 9, bunkers were always nicely raked and decent sand, only real 'downside' as such was they had rabbits so some hefty rabbit holes around including one we lost a ball down that looked to be >1 meter deep!

For the solo 18 I shot 83, +15 with a quadruple bogey (that technically would've been reduced to a mere triple), felt that was ok really, definitely could've done better though. Actually just checked and I'd get 19 shots on that in 'EG' so even better than I thought :p

Anyway, back yesterday, everyone enjoyed themselves so that's good and back to the normal Bristol golf today.

Played ok in Bristol, 4 bad holes really messed with the scorecard but 10 pars and 4 bogeys was ok, and a counting score just for a small handicap drop.

Last week at the range hit a mates T100's, and these are last years, but they felt super nice. Even from my silly Takomo blade purchase which themselves feel good the T100's were really good. Be interesting to see what you get fit into though?

I did see a bit ago on a YT video they do a 'high launch' version of the T250's which is basically players distance with traditional lofts, that's an interesting proposition I feel...

yeah - got a couple of hours put aside for fitting.

Driver/3w - all good.

Wedges SM10 50/54/58 - all good.

Everything in between is up for grabs....

I've owned a T shirt of about 20years, doesn't mean it should cost £500 to buy. The value is in the material and putters are lumps of cheap metal.

Ps.. My driver cost £150 quid off Ebay and I believe the same thing about them. Golf equipment is very overpriced.

Driver you have might have been £400/500 when it launched new so waiting for a couple of years old is a good idea.

Value of a putter is not just the materials - it's the R&D, tech, marketing, materials, production etc - Much like anything else - A car is not just materials - it's everything else that's gone into the end product that costs the money.

Each to their own of course - but people are happy to pay £500 for a putter or driver - let them. Not saying it's right or wrong.

Much like anything else - Slazenger ball does the same as a pro V in theory - £1 a ball versus £5 a ball - each to their own. But I'd spend a £5 every time for the quality, spin, feel, durability of the pro v.... But that's just me.

I don't mind spending money on my golf - I work hard, earn it, spend it how I like - Wife doesn't bother about it as she does the same with bags / shoes / clothes etc.

Another frustrating weekend of golf here. Saturday, awful. Really struggling just to make good contact, putts just missing the hole. Shot 95 gross which was surprising as it felt like it should have been into three figures. Only highlight was the 18th where I hit probably my best drive ever on that hole to leave me a 6i over the trees cutting the corner of the dog leg. Put that middle of the green to leave a regulation two putt for par, only my 5th of the round. Sunday I start great, regulation par at the 1st which I've never done before with a card in hand. Out in 41 which either ties or is one off my PB and could easily have been a couple of shots better, 5 pars. Back nine couldn't do anything right. 7 bogies, 1 double and a triple at the last after hitting a perfect drive like Saturday. Maddening I tell thee! Honestly feels like I haven't shot one good round all year, I've had good individual nines but never put two together.

Club match away at East Horton next weekend so a chance to reset and just enjoy playing a new to me course.
