Mountain Biking

Been a minute (nearly 20 years) since I last flew out to Morzine. Off in a few weeks. What's the deal with flying with full face helmets these days? Does it have to go in checked bag or can you get away with it as a loose carry on item? It wont fit in my carry on bag but as the bike is already out there I can travel light, and I'd love to avoid checking a bag if I could. Flying with Swiss.

The best bike is the one you ride and the most fun you can have is with those you enjoy spending your time with.

The Cooker is still going strong. Absolutely bullet proof! Not bad for a 9 year old bike.

Absolute bone shaker doing the trails at Hamsterly with this sausage sandwiched between me and the bars. We had a good giggle though although I’m now walking like John Wayne after 17 and a shade miles.

Not sure what caused a bad landing (1),
A bad take off, is the short answer.
The full answer is if you've got your weight distribution wrong, which itself can be caused by various things, or the wrong speed, then the end result is a bad landing.

Intense's woes are mostly based around poor management decisions and their total lack of market penetration into Europe. Very few people care about or have any connection with the brand outside of the US and pushing their products into a market where they were not able to support the consumer properly was always going to end poorly for them.

Likely went the way of EU distributors having large amounts of unsold stock and Intense weren't seeing the returns they had forecast. Intense need that cash flow and cutting off a market that wasn't performing should help them to figure out their US problems.
Intense were distributing themselves in Europe.

The business model they were using I thought was a pretty good one (a mate was a dealer), but I think timing has been the bigger issue.
They took over distribution when the bike trade was really suffering post covid then the cost of living slump, and having had the brand pretty much disappear outside the US, so they had the double whammy of trying to get the brand visible again, while trying to build sales in a very subdued and oversaturated market.

I did almost buy an Intense Tracer last year, but I got a good deal on a Mondraker frame instead.

Had a blast out on the emtb yesterday. New power mode maxed out makes things so easy that you can just keep going and going and going.

New tyres perform nicely too, the loose gravel and rocks were made light work with the Argotal rear with cushcore pro, very happy I gave that a go. As soon as it gets a bit sandy on a hard concrete surface for example it all falls apart so you have to be mindful of what you are riding on when pushing with these things.

Definitely not as nice as an Tacky Chan as an all rounder but heaps more grip on the trails I’m used to riding.

The rims are bomb proof too with the rock gardens on a technical black diamond not even leaving a mark even with a couple of slips and light bashes. There’s no wonder they use this rim on the DH bikes in the World Cup. Properly impressed.

Is that the cube?

If so how do you find it?

I’m in the market for a new ebike. My shortlist atm is SC vala, transition regulator CX, amflow carbon.

The Santa Cruz I would buy a high end model and just change the rear shock.

The transition and amflow I would buy the lower spec models and swap most parts.

The cube seems much better value for the stock spec and has an 800wh battery.

I also already have an ext shock in 230x65 that would go on it.

Just don’t know much about them or the frame.

Anyone tried the new schwalbe radial? Need a new rear and was considering the albert trail soft, or the dh soft and a trail ultra soft magic mary for upfront.

Not had a set of schwalbe for about 10 years but the hype has me intrigued.

friend has just switched to them from Maxxis and wont shut up about them. To the point where im going to have to try them at some point.

Yep tried one, immediately swapped everything over to them.
Trail bike has magic Mary trailpro ultra soft on. Sadly they don't do one yet that fits the rear. Just amazing feel and grip.

Not fancy a albert for the rear?

Assuming 27.5 rear?

Also can't find any mm in stock :(

Also Also, forgot to out the pin through discs after a bleed. Jammed breaks on, oil everywhere. All over new pads. Looks like a broken piston or seal. :(

Expensive month for cycling.

I mean you can get a full Kashima build for £6500 and at that money it’s a no brainer really. If your swapping out to the EXT then I’d look at the £5500 mode on green, slap that shock in and maybe at some point swap the front fork, cockpit etc. It’ll even come with MT7 brakes and for the money it’s a bargain. At the spec my bikes rocking it’s somewhere between £9k and £10k when you factor in the replacement wheels, better cassette and chain, rental cockpit and Hope brakes.

Having played with the Amflow I would say the amflow has a more “wow” as you ride it due to the power BUT that’s a trap, the novelty wears off, you very rarely use it and the rest of the bikes geo and less burly components so get noticed.

I personally wouldn’t bother with the SC as you’re looking at around £11k for the same spec which is wild. The Levo4 if you consider that in S-works is also £11-12k and personally I think that money is just a massive waste when £8k gets you 95% of the bike.

If you went with the lower spec Amflow and swapped out the fork, shock, wheels, potentially the transmission, cockpit… it’ll be up there with the cost of the top end bike but with parts you want.

The come is headset routing. I hate that. Besides that it’s a fantastic bike and a huge surprise.

Won't fit too wide, and no 29er

Every build on my spreadsheet is coming out about £10k ish. The One77 HPC AT 800 is on sale atm for £5700! The lower one would do if it were not that god awful camo green. How do you find sizing? Im 175cm or 5'9" tend to ride a medium with a 450-460 reach. My analogue merida is a tad longer at 470.

That's why I like the spec of the cube on paper. Didn't realise it had headset cable routing. That's a real pain in the rear on my merida. Its also a fair bit heavier than i would like. I was looking to get around 21/22kg but it does have a bigger battery than the others.

Bike shop has a cancelled order of an Unno Mith Race in my size for £8k but would be a case of buying without riding which im not keen on given its so much money.

I sized up on the one77 to an L over my Nukeproof Scout which was an M. My Specialized Status is an S4 which is also an L. I’m 178cm for context.

Weight doesn’t really matter to be honest, there’s that much power and torque than weight isn’t an issue for riding around normally. The geo is good so it feels nimble. The chain stay is short and it’s a mullet so it’s playful in the back too.

It tends to make creaking noises etc but that’s down to the motor bolts not having grease (they don’t need it apparently) I refuse to believe that so greased them anyway and the creaking has gone.

I also adjusted the battery mount internally to make them slightly tighter and that’s made the bike pretty much silent. I did however replace the stem and bars to better suit my preference and size so went with a shorter stem with a moderate increase in rise. The bikes great value all in and lots of fun right out of the box.

I already have a hope cockpit i will transfer to my new steed. 155mm cranks and saddle also. Why did you size up? Did you test ride it before hand? Only bike ive ridden where i needed a L was the amflow. All others I have found the M to be much better for me.

only thing on my spreadsheet i would want to change is wheelset (identical to yours as I have that on my analogue), Grips and coil shock. I have an EXT storia V4 on my analogue which is also 230x65 so could try that on it before committing. But it was custom tuned for me and the bike by mojo so might not suit. I cannot find any kinematic data or leverage curve info for the cube.

the whole build is thousands cheaper than any other on my list and is the only bosch bike (on my list) that has an 800wh battery. Do you know if the Kiox 400c display will fit in the top tube cutout? I really want this if i get a bosch bike. I like how clean it is.

The transition regulator is £6.5k and has deore kit with domain forks and a 600wh battery. Just such poor value which is upsetting as I really liked the bike. I know il make a decision and it will crop up somewhere 30% off.

I had a very quick ride around the shop and the process of basic steering caught my knees on the M. That alone is the reason as I knew that I could push the seat forward 20mm and bring the stem back 15mm if needed on the L quite easily so that is what I planned to do. Ultimately the stem was enough so I didn’t even need to touch the seat.

The Kiox 400c will fit and I will be getting one myself as soon as they become available in September.

The balance of the bike is great and the value it offers over other brands is incredible. Don’t get me wrong, you could buy a Canyon, Orbea, trek and various other brands for similar over all money if you pick the right bike and upgrades but it’s a faf.

If I was to do anything different I would have gone GX instead of XO, not bothered with a Kashima dropper and would have got the Fox Podium instead of a 38 but the podium wasn’t a thing at the time and hindsight is a lovely thing.

Also, cube is sold in so many places, if you pick the right place to buy from (leisurelakebikes) for the sake of argument, that’s a whole bunch of places you can take it back to. I love my local shops and will buy everything from them BUT a full bike.

does the rebound adjustment knob on the bottom of everyone's fork have worn off paint? literally the rest of my bike still mostly looks new after 2 years ownership. was kind of surprised to see it looking so tarnished

Might see if i can try one.

I keep getting in the trap of adding a bit more travel.

My ebike is my do it all bike. I have an enduro/bike park bike so 170mm travel is a little overkill for what i use the eeb for.

150/160 more playful slightly lighter is what im really after. Not to offset the climbs but more for the trails i tend to ride. Im doing a lot more steep technical (but slow descents) and also more jumps and fun stuff.

is that not just a cap? Not sure what forks they are but on mine the black plastic cap twists off to reveal the actual rebound adjusters beneath.
