*** Official Ubiquiti Discussion Thread ***

I have the original capsule shaped Dream Router (UDR). Do you think either the Dream Router 7 or the unifi Express would be a good replacement in terms of a bit better wifi coverage?

The Unifi Express (unless you mean Express 7) is a pile of crap. Very underpowered.

One of my APs (Flex HD or whatever it is called) has been complaining about a poor cable connection. Have replaced wall>AP and switch >wall, which means it must be either the internal wall cabling or bad punchdowns.

With Sonos? The controller needs to be on the same VLAN as the speakers. With that said, it's possible to have them separate, there's a few YT guides on it. But yeah, generally things talk to the public API for the devices, rather than directly.
I've done it with Sonos. There are guides to do it completely properly with enablement of multi cast etc but it flew over my head if I'm honest.

I ended up putting it in IOT vlan, then punching holes into the vlan from secure network by device so they can talk to Sonos there.

Considering consolidating Unifi stack a bit. I currently have a UNVR, but considering the UDM-SE, the UNVR currently has a mirrored 12TB WD Purple drives:
Unifi G4 Doorbell
G4 Bullet
G5 Pro
Unifi AI turret

I've had a few comment that the SE performance is not as good as the UNVR, I understand if at scale i.e. lots more cameras etc.

pfsense / Sophos XG firewall will go and I'd consider swapping a 48 Pro POE switch for a 24 HD POE.

I have an SE with a G4 Doorbell along with 2 x G5 Bullets. Admittedly not the most intensive of loads but it runs very well.

Also have an 10gbe aggregation switch, two APs and 3 wired computers all plugged in (I believe I have IDS bells and whistles turned on as well) - no issues. It does get hot though but temps run in the 50s.

Had a load of issues uploading files via SFTP, never occurred to me that the Cloud Gateway would be at fault. I get less than 10 Mbps upload, if I connect via NordVPN or directly into the ONT I get the full 100 Mbps. Case logged with UniFi, let's see what they say.

This Unifi server OS I thought you already could run it all on something like a raspberry pi or in a docker?
Previously you could just run the Controller as an app on top of Linux or Windows etc. (or via a Docker container).

This however is the fully featured OS as used by the Cloud Key etc, and so should offer the full suite of Unifi e.g. Protect, Access, Talk, rather than just the Network section.
The downside being that it will need to be run as a full VM (as it's a self contained OS) rather than as a container

A container is effectively a whole OS except kernel, so I’m not sure that makes sense unless the UniFi OS runs a custom kernel but then I’d be curious about how hardware and feature support is managed beyond their own kit. The network application container I used was based on a Ubuntu image. The ‘UniFi OS’ may just be collection of apps that could be containerised or even built as a docker image unless the above is true. How is UniFi OS distributed? That may give more of a clue. I haven’t looked yet.

Edit: Looks like it’s a podman image with bespoke installer that can run on multiple OS but obviously Linux is the only sane choice. Protect isn’t included yet, seems to be network and innerspace for now.

I'm just wondering what is the general view on whether Ubiquiti is suitable for Enterprise yet?
We are a SMB and are moving premise and have just opted to go for Ubiquiti (3x USW-Enterprise-48-PoE, Cloud Key, 7x U7 Pro, 8x U7-Outdoor in the Warehouse).

Are there any recommended settings or anything to be aware of?

Thanks in advance

SMB != Enterprise.

They are fine for SMB, but for Enterprise level I'd be wanting support agreements with defined SLAs which I don't think they offer.
They do per se, but it's UI Care and Professional Support which are cost options.

However, is it on the same level as something like a Smartnet agreement from Cisco, No (IMO).

It all depends on what a hardware failure would cost you in downtime.

They have options such as UI Care, which will send you out a switch before requiring the old one to be RMA'ed. However, depending on the cost to the business, it may pay you to keep a spare.

In my personal opinion, I think they are fine for an SMB environment, taking the above into account. However, would I run them in a DC at an Enterprise level, No, not at the moment.

We have bought spare AP's of each model, and have a breakfix agreement with a 3rd party for the switches which will guarantee availability and a replacement.

I was just curious on whether Ubiquiti were taking steps towards trying to capture a % of enterprise (particularly with the SKU names) or if that is not really the direction they are taking.

If they are lacking any enterprise features or if it is simply the SLA where they are not up to standard.

Another way to look at that is if you don't notice the features which are missing, then you don't need them.

However, one I can think straight off the top of my head is VXLANs, and they are somewhat limited to how many VLANS you can use on them. The last time I looked, it was around 200 VLANs, which that maybe more now.
