KFC - Downhill?

I avoid the place generally these days, shame as I used to love a Zinger burger but I've come away disappointed the odd time the urge won my judgement.

Had a KFC meal at the weekend, the meat was really soft and juicey but absolutely no flavour from the coating.
Some of the independent chicken shops are far nicer.

I agree the box meal pricing is ridiculous now, especially if you have a famil,y you end up paying a small fortune for a takeaway where the quality is not there anymore.

What happened at Costa?
I refuse to pay £3+ for a basic cup of coffee, so to be fair I don't think I've been to Nero or Starbucks in a very long time either. 250g of Lavazza beans for my coffee machine is like £5.50 and that'll make about 20 cups

Mind you this logic is somewhat flawed as I'll happily pay £7 for a decent (Not Madri) pint of beer

The last time I went to McDonnalds I ordered on the screen and it was like £8 for some bits of chicken and a few chips I cancelled the order and walked out employee at the door asked me if everything was ok lol. I went 5 mins down the road to the local fish and chip shop and got about a kilo of Fish and Chips for £9

Yeah that's the price of shop bought coffee these days unfortunately!

It's the price for me, easily £10+ per person and used to be half that what feels like not a long time ago...
Yep, the price is nuts now and the quality is severely lacking.

I used to go with a mate, we'd get an 8 piece bucket and 1.5L bottle of drink for £10. 4 pieces each, 2 servings of chips, and share the drink. Solid meal for £5.

It's now £9.49 for a 4 piece meal and that's with a tiny portion of chips! I'd rather eat in a real restaurant for not much more nowadays.

Had my first KFC in a while the other day, was awful and just like this, fries had too much seasoning and made them so dry. After my first couple of bites I sat and wondered why I was even eating it and half went in the bin. For £9 odd it was shocking

I've had a KFC a few years ago (first time!), it was so average that I'm not bothered about any more, it wasn't awful but really not that enjoyable. It's so expensive for what it is. Then again I also find Five Guys gash for the price.

I'm clearly not the target audience. If it was good quality it wouldn't be so bad, and fried chicken is really nice (I'm a big fan of it) but the KFC version doesn't tickle my fancy.

The mark up on the food must be pretty high because you can buy a decent quality chicken even from the likes of Waitrose for more than £10 less than a family meal. (Ok you have to take into account the cost of electricity to cook it).

But as ever as a treat and if you enjoy it - go for it! You have to enjoy yourself from time to time and it's all subjective. We all have our vices and we can't be saints all the time! :)

I have no self control so why I don't buy treats at home else I will just demolish them and I'm a bit of a saddo that's into fitness etc... But I'm not that virtuous, but I've not walked past a KFC and gone "oooh I need one". Five guys yes, but not for the price, I just can't justify that when I can go to another more artisanal burger joint for similar or even less price. :)

Just went to KFC for a quick lunch; usually go with mini fillets but fancied a burger so had a fillet burger for the first time in a bit over a year. What the hell has happened to these?! The chicken was barely a centimetre thick, like a chicken breast cut into halves if not thirds. Pathetic.

I remember growing up in the 90's a Chinese take away dinner for the family was the 'expensive' dinner option. Now it's one of the least expensive take aways we get - out of Chinese, Indian, McDonalds, Dominos, KFC...

100%.

At what they are charging you'd have to have your head examined.

I had it once, and only once.

To be honest, the fact that a chain like 5 guys exist and seem more common these days is a sign that maybe people are not struggling as much financially as they make out.

Guess the price of rice/noodle hasn't exploded

I went today, asked for 5 pieces of chicken, no meal etc, just 5 bits of chicken.

Guess how much?

£6? Yea sounds about right?

How about £9.95........

To be fair, it was actually really good, best KFC I've had in a long while but a tenner for 5 bits of chicken is WTF.

You got robbed. Even a single piece is only £1.89. 3 pieces is £5.29 (according to the app). But the other day I got the 60 popcorn chicken for £5.99 and it gave me the option to add on 8 wings, 4 tenders or 4 pieces for only £4. Its the first KFC I've had in about 18 months (since a change of job meant I stopped walking past one almost everyday on the way home from work) and have to admit the popcorn chicken was actually really moreish, perfect cup holder drive home snack food I found.
