Hi all, I’m looking to upgrade my current machine from a 2500k and GTX780 with a budget of £1500-£2000.

Possible bits I can reuse are a:
Noctua NH-D14, Silverstone case FT-02 and an AX750 PSU but these are all at least 10 years old now. Case may be too small depending on the GPU chosen.

Was looking at an AMD CPU and possibly the 7090xt Pulse.
Would need a copy of windows to be included in the cost.
Monitor is an ASUS 1440p
Assume the PSU would be unreliable at its age so guess that would require an upgrade too.

Anything else you need to know?

All help appreciated.

TIA

7090xt Pulse
Do you mean the 9070 XT Pulse, or the 7900 XT Pulse? Most places no longer sell the 7900 XT Pulse anymore as new, bar one place that I've just found, though it's £800 there (which is massively overpriced compared to the 9070 XT Pulse IMO).

I have a hunch that you meant the newer 9070 XT Pulse though, which I would recommend.

Sorry, yes newer 9070XT

Looking at your current Silverstone FT-02 case, you definitely won't be able to fit the 9070 XT Pulse in there unfortunately, or the 5070 Ti that @Tetras suggested.

I'd replace the case with the Lian Li Lancool 216 that Tetras suggested.

Any reason for the Nvidia over AMD and is the power connector ok on that card or is it one of the problematic ones?
Problematic. There's a potential for any card with that power connector to melt, but the consensus is that the highest power draw cards are more likely to have issues.

5070 Ti is a better card overall for performance and feature set, but nothing wrong with the 9070 XT.

Hi, the PSU is out of stock. Is there anything else recommended?
I often suggest Phanteks AMP GH. It isn't an absolute top tier unit (OEM is believed to be Helly) and the warranty is only 8 year (most gold rated PSUs are 10 year), but looks solid enough from reviews of the platform.

Bit of fun if you want to try aio and more open looking case...put a slightly more premium mobo in there and more powerful psu as they come with a 10yrs warranty so should be good for your next gpu upgrade in future
I'd just get a copy of windows for £15/£20...just google...no woay I'd be paying £150 for a copy now

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,683.86 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Yeah, that looks ok but I don't mind paying a little more if I get a much better PSU? Found Noctua do an mounting bracket upgrade for my cooler to use the AM5 socket so will get that ordered, will need some thermal compound to go with it. Anything you recommend for that too?

Looking to change Win 11 to home from pro too as its nearly £40 cheaper, assume there's no reason I need the pro versions?
Removed the cooler to use my own
PSU change as your advice.

Should be no issues with the above?

Just looked at the photos of the TUF PSU and for the motherboard it has a 9x2 and a 5x2 but the motherboard has connectors to accept a 12x2 4x2 and a 2x2. Assume it's me missing something?

Also like the look of the Aorus board not sure it the bit on the back of the IO connectors would foul the Noctua NH-D14 I already have? Is either board better than the other?
