Exactly that… They broke the licensed version of Workstation Pro for Windows we used to get through our vSphere data centre licence… needed to remove and reinstall a later version with the new Broadcom links built in. Right pain in the backside when they’ve had a recent CVE or two! No real warning of them doing it either, which didn’t help.I suspect it's related to Broadcom killing the old software repo (softwareupdate.vmware.com). The only workaround is to disable automatic update checking and wait for a new version which will point at the new repo.
I think I'm just going to switch to qemu for most things. I had the same trouble trying to download things and don't want to have that hassle in the future.Does anyone know how you're now suppose to download the latest version of Fusion? Or have a direct link to the DMG?
Tried to login with my VMWare credentials but the Broadcom site refused and it didn't want to do the account transition through the support site.
Went through the rigmarole of creating a new account, whoever blocked password copy/paste on the UI needs to be shot, but now it requires "verification" to download Fusion but it won't accept address details and throws some error about verification. Attempting to 'build my profile', hoping there's something there for "verification" throws another error that it isn't a corporate email address.
What a complete and utter shambles this is![]()
I have Fusion installed but don't really use it. Macupdater is reporting there's an update available.
But even with pi-hole disabled, it does this.
I gave up on Fusion and went to Parallels instead because I couldn't be bothered with the problems.Think it's been like that most of the year now... Completely broken the built-in updater, which is REALLY annoying, but VERY Broadcom. Plays havoc with how some of our techies get updates on their machines </me shakes fist at Broadcom idiots>
Wish I could stick that too... don't use VM enough to keep up Parallels costs, so Fusion it is for now. Parallels way better.I gave up on Fusion and went to Parallels instead because I couldn't be bothered with the problems.
Don't mean to nit pick, but Broadcom haven't owned VMware for that length of time. Most of the Fusion dev team got laid off before Broadcom took over, and the product has sadly suffered as a result. It started to gain some more traction, hence it works pretty well on Apple Silicone now, but again some more folk got laid off recently including my main contact.got a 3 year active issue that they've still not fixed
vSphere issue is a long running one. Sorry, wasn’t clear on that… got worse since Broadcom taking over. Support was poor prior to them, measurably worse now.Don't mean to nit pick, but Broadcom haven't owned VMware for that length of time. I guess Broadcom don't see much business value in it, but at least it's getting *some* attention including the recent security update. I get it's easy to bash Broadcom, but a small hoop of downloading an update by hand is a small price to pay for a highly performant free product.
Sure, Parallels is more polished, but that's literally an entire company focussed on one main product, which they charge a subscription for.
No worries, I've worked on quite a few AMD EPYC related issues, especially the early models and Pensando NICs so can understand your frustration. I was part of the old CAP team, working closely with customers, vendors, and the engineering teams.vSphere issue is a long running one. Initial issues around mid-late 2022, mostly Epyc hosts, but the odd Intel.
OT now, so will leave it at that!
Parallels is subscription only. Yeah, VMware does work well but from the looks of things Broadcom don't have much in the way of plans to add major new features.I’m a new user of VMWare Fusion, wasn’t a user before Broadcom took over but I managed to register and download it. Works well for me. I only tried it out for the hell of it but it works surprisingly well.
I won’t be needing Parallels, if I did I think I’d pay for it outright rather than a subscription.
