Virgin Media Discussion Thread

Did they tell you what the price rises will be in April 2026 and April 2027?
Yeah £37.50 April 26 / £41 April 27 (Then £85 August 27 Out of contract) So all in all its better than what ive got now. So itll do me. Me and my partner pay half each each month so works out good. By the time 2027 comes i should have a decent pay increase at work to cover these inflation bills.

I want to keep the connection because ive had no problems with it and on my PCs upstairs they are both wired to LANs and i get a nice 927.72 Mbps Down and 105.18 Up speeds wise. Not Quite the full 1 Gig but thats due to the 2.5G lan port not working properly on the Hub 5 router to my switch.

Currently paying £21 for 250mbps and out of contract next month, contacted VM via webchat, I quite fancy upgrading to 1gb for £30 as mentioned in here but webchat didn't want none of it - so I have served notice with the hope that the retentions team do their job.
I work for Daisy who have just merged with O2/VM, I wonder if they would offer me some staff discount of some sort hehe

My current deal ends in October currently paying £25.80 for 250mb will jump to £42.80

I don't know if I should hang on till black Friday see if anything pops up

I'll have to play the leaving game again and hope for good deal , gotta factor in the April increase I see virgin contract gone from 18 months to 24 months, the only other options I see when looking at compare sites are sky and Vodafone 500mb

I moved house a while ago and was told that installation would be at my new house on the 6th of August. They have to do some work outside as there is no toby box here so that's fair enough and both BIDB and roadworks.org showed that VM had arranged for some work to take place outside my house a week before so that was a good sign. However on the day all that happened was someone spraying a line outside on the pavement.

Out of nowhere on the 4th I got an email saying that it had been moved to the 30th. Again BIDB and roadworks.org showed work taking place outside my house a few days later, but again all that seemed to happen was someone in a high vis jacket taking a look and spraying another line on the pavement and that was all. Now I'm in the position where my install date is only a few days away and there is still no sign of any outdoor work and nothing is scheduled on BIDB or roadworks.org.

I'm assuming that they're going to move the install date again because I can't see how it's possible right now. Does anyone know what kind of compensation I'm likely to get for this? All they said on the phone is that there will be compensation which is fair enough because it makes sense to just get it up and running first and then see what's what. I moved house on the 29th so by the time the 30th rolls around it'll be at least a month without service. Luckily for me I have a fibre connection already, but as far as they're concerned I've been without Internet for weeks now.

I'll be happy enough with just not having to pay for the duration of not having service, but if they're likely to give me anything on top of that then that'll be a nice bonus.

You are due the Ofcom delayed install compensation from the 6th August (£6.24 per day), and the failed visit compensation if they show up and then say they can't do the work, or you're told that the appointment is moving with less than 24 hours notice.

If Virgin won't pay that then post on their forums and people will walk you through the process to dispute it. Start maintaining a spreadsheet now with missed appointment dates, days since the 6th August etc. If you present it in an idiot-proof way to the ombudsman then they'll quickly rule in your favour and then VM will probably owe you several hundred pounds. There is no requirement to take it as bill credit either, you can insist on payment into your bank account.

price is getting too much now compared with rivals. Community fibre I can get 1gb up AND down for almost half the price of what I am paying now. My contract runs out early 2026 so will likely be moving over once the contract is done.

Agreed, I'm currently on 250 with Volt I'm getting 350 for £26 a month, when I last looked I could get 1gb with 4th Ultility for £24 a month. Will be cancelling when my contract is up in October.

Easy decision, unfortunately I don't have much options other than Vodafone, sky , BT , virgin which are all priced similar only hope is if I can get better deal when I give my cancellation

4th Utility are meant to be terrible I'd avoid, the CityFibre Reddit is full of bad things regarding 4th Utility.

I'd switch if I were you. And I'd switch myself if I could, except no other providers do more than 70mb to my flat. Virgin Media have a monopoly on decent broadband speeds here unfortunately for me.

I also didn't realise I was out of contract (they probably couldn't reach me for renewals since my phone number changed) and the 'in-contract' renewal price for the 250mb was over £40 (probably the same as what @uscool was offered if not a bit more)!

So I called up today to try and leave (they put me through some AI nonsense phone tree at first). I gave truthful (in hindsight, I should have lied and said the competitors were offering more for less) examples of sub £30 competitors, when they asked why I was leaving. At first they offered me a measly upgrade to 350mb for the default renewal price well over £40. When I said it wasn't enough and I wanted £30, they dropped it down to ~£37 for the 350mb.

Even though I know I'm still getting shafted, I just took it for the time being, after getting details that if I move, I wouldn't have to give a cancellation fee if the relocation didn't support VM. Let's see if they hold true to that, I'd potentially be looking at moving somewhere closer to work next year and I'll definitely be searching for places that have multiple options for modern internet speeds, avoiding these clowns.

Absolutely atrocious. Just another example of success corrupting something that used to be decent. Back when they had to compete and provide good deals to retain customers, they were decent.

I've been with cable since it was called blueyonder / telewest so very long time I can't fault the service with being down maybe in 20 years only few times or speed issues although I had to buy my own router as the virgin hub wasn't great for WiFi stability

If I log into my account on Virgin site I see renewal offer £24.77 a month
Increasing to:
£28.27 from your April 2026 bill
£31.77 from your April 2027 bill

Instead of phoning you can use the live chat and also message via WhatsApp did that last few times to get better deal

But this time I'm considering just buying an 5G router and getting 5g unlimited data SIM can choose to do monthly rolling and none of this price increase during contract will have to test out speeds first

Id mobile running on three is £15 unlimited or 12 months £10

Yeah there are just a lot better options now at great prices. The fact you can get fully fibre connections as well that are put in place over the copper coax is a huge plus as well (though for most people this probably makes very little difference)

Always good to keep an eye out on openreach and community fibre and when they come into your area. There are quite a few independent fibre ones (that run off openreach) that are becoming more and more common

I'm always keeping an eye out even more so when open reach arrived around 3 years ago before virgin media was the only option for faster speed but disappointed with the deals it's only BT, sky , Vodafone, Plusnet and the lesser known ones are more expensive, and I don't have high hopes community fibre arriving here any time soon

Gonna look into 5G if virgin don't offer good enough deal to keep me sick of the price increases while in contract

Thats a shame! 5G routers aren't so bad. I would even take a look at Starlink and see if that works well in your area
