Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

Fuse energy is looking very intriguing swapping on Saturday (2 day swap)
Saving about £8.50 in standing charges alone, unit rates pretty much the same compared to octopus fixed gas is a chunk lower.
£25-150 for referrals who sign up aswell and a second chance upon first bill so minimum of £50 credit (to the person who signs up)
App looks simple and clean.
You have to pay by variable direct debit though which won't be suitable for some. You can top up as needed though aswell.
No phone number webchat only but seems quick got a response to a query within 10min.

Alistair camber’s and Rory Stuart’s podcast has an add spot for them most weeks, you can usually get one of their books or a free subscription to the economist by using their code if you are into that sort of thing :p

I swapped over a few days ago when they had a slightly better deal than what's available now. I'm hoping they are a decent/legit company who don't price energy too low and run into issues, like tomato energy!

They've been around since 2023 from what I can see (for electric only until recently) don't really have much concern, at least for a 1 year period. £8.50 is like 1/7 of my entire bill so good chunk of savings to be had. Octopus is just not offering good prices anymore, it's too busy with saving sessions that are pennies or free coffees that disappear instantly.

The variable direct debit isn't for me, although I could afford it - I'd rather a constant and regular direct debit.

I emailed Fuse Energy recently and received an email a few minutes later saying they're looking into it. A couple of hours later, they replied with their answers. But the lack of being able to pick up the phone and speak to somebody puts me off.

At the end of the day, I've chosen Home Energy for a very small amount extra. I was able to chat to them on live chat and got the answers I wanted in 10 minutes. I forgot to ask them something, so decided to test their phone line out - a simple no-nonsense system which doesn't have dozens of options, a few seconds wait time and - the best part - a UK call centre!

Octopus isn't even doing as many saving sessions either!

We've had wind and sun showing as " GREEN DAYS ", yet no power ups! The ones where you get free leccy for a set amount of hours. Had loads last year

The free sessions are not set by octopus, they are apart of the demand flexibility service operated by the national grid ESO.

It hasn’t been windy enough for a free electricity session.

The numbers are different depending on where you live, you know this already.

The way this is reported is basically the same regardless of media outlet.

Typical = average, it’s really not that hard to understand. It’s been the same since the price cap took effect many years ago.

If you want to know who’s much it will impact you, take your bill, increase it by 2% and there’s your rough estimate.

Probably changes to the warm home stuff. Basically everyone else is funding this for those on benefits. It really should be in general taxation.
Yes it should. Same as water social tariffs - why are they hidden in your water bill rather than being means tested alongside the broader benefits system? Its taxation by the back door.
