EV general discussion

Eh? Still showing on the configurator for me, have I missed something?
It was the old model S that didn’t have CCS and was discontinued in the UK back in 2020ish.

We can’t get RHD now and can only get LHD Euro spec so it’s effectively DOA in the U.K. There are 71 registered in the U.K. since they launched in 2023 and I expect half of them are owned by Tesla themselves.

Oh wow, never knew that! Cheers :)

It'll be interesting to see what Ford recommend, as the battery is a 46kWh one with 43.6kWh usable so the exta headroom may mean 100% charging is less of an issue.

Reviews seemed fairly impressed by its efficiency too, though as usual they were in a nice warm country on smooth roads.
It’s almost like it’s a small car with good aero drag numbers ( frontal area x Cd).

4m/ kwh should be no problem at 70mph and would expect more.

There can be anything from 5% to 20% efficiency losses on AC chargers. Though in general expect around 10%.

That's the thing, the Hypervolt 3 Pro is meant to have an energy rating of 99% at full rated output.

I doubt that any charger that is supplying 7kWh is consuming up to 1.4kWh for it's own operation, that would be terrible. Yes, the charger's internal circuitry requires some power (wifi, component heat losses) but not that much.

Having thought a bit about it I suppose the charging functions of the car itself (battery management system, battery conditioning, heat pump etc) could explain the discrepancy. If your car's battery capacity is 100kWh for example, it'll be costing you 110kWh worth of energy to charge it.

I think the charging efficiency of an EV is an overlooked element, but its impact is relatively small when you're paying less than 7p a kWh. A different story if you're paying 85ppkWh at a public charger constantly!

The inefficiency is in the AC to DC conversion that happens in the car for AC charging and in the charger for DC charging.

The charger you have at home will consume power but that won’t materially change whether it’s charging or not, it’s just a relay and a small amount of control electronics.

If you are concerned about charging efficiency, you need to look at the car itself.

There is nothing you can do about the latter. Unless you pull out the data sheets for every model of DC charger and every configuration for every model, you aren’t going to know what the efficiency is.

That said, it doesn’t really matter if you are billed for the DC going into your car or the AC going into the charger, you are going to be paying for it either way as pricing will be adjusted accordingly.

The charger might have that energy rating, but the AC to DC converter in the car, the cables etc will always have some energy loss.

If you also have preconditioning set in your car for the climate or the battery, then expect to lose a few kWh as well.

As said above the "charger" is in your car. The box on your wall is little more than a socket in terms of actually getting power into the car.

got my rear passenger windows + rear windscreen tinted today
damn it was hard finding a place that will do the full rear windscreen in one piece, but found after a couple of days lol
unfortunately they ran out of 20% tints, so i only had the choice of 5% or 35%...went with the 5% tint in the end as i wanted the rear windows to be darker
ceramic-based tint so visibility from the inside isn't actually that bad, even if it looks nearly completely opaque from the outside

installed the swivel mount and driver's display today. took about a couple hours to install both
...now looks more like a normal car lol

the swivel mount brings the screen forwards about an inch or two, and i find that it's more ergonomical to use (in addition to the swivel)

You car looks good. Are you concerned about warranty impact from the aftermarket screens?

Also the tint does look very minor, tbh my used model Y looks very similar so wondering wether that's tinted.

Also don't know if you need to declare these mods to insurance (similarly to the tyre covers I got below)

I also bought the fan covers for below the seat, mental how big the opening is!

I agree that red is the best colour :p

From memory Model Y's have the rear tint / privacy glass as standard (over the boot and rear window glass). Model 3's didn't have it as standard (maybe the performance?) but this may have changed (I haven't looked). :)

Nah, the installation was non destructive and can be easily removed, so I dont think warranty is affected.

I'm not going to bother declaring

I know right! Tbh if I didn't see it on YouTube I wouldn't have known. Not something you would think would be there, until a stone chip ends up there and makes an annoying rattle.

And rare too!

I think I'd do something with those wheels, they just look like they need a good clean to me...

I've grown to really like the red Teslas. I've ordered Stealth Grey as my previous 2 cars have been bright blue so I wanted something a bit more lowkey but the Tesla dealer said if my selected car doesn't arrive in time they may 'upgrade' me to a different colour. I wont be too mad if I get the new 'ultra red' Looks fantastic in person. But it may have looked fantastic as it was on a M3P.

Yeah, Tesla are very relaxed on warranty, the screens just plug in to what most would equate as OBDII..

I never bothered removing my Enhance Auto S3XY Knob/Commander, they even asked how I was getting on with it when in for rear boot lid strut replacement..

How is the fluidity of the second screen? 2 years ago I was on the fence about getting one, but demo'd one in one of our sales guys cars and found it a bit laggy and not that fluid in terms of update rate so just decided not to bother and I've kind of stopped wanting one, the main screen suffices.

I've got the latest F9 pro screen. Very fluid and not laggy in the slightest. Updates as quickly as the main screen does. Can highly recommend.

The highland m3p look much better than the standard cars. Bigger step up from a normal M3 to the m3p in the highland refresh

I just love the wheels, carbon trim and the seats... Though I guess other than the actual performance updates that's about everything to love about it

I think I'll go the route of the S3XY Knob (they knew what they were doing) but on my test drives I didn't mind the indicator buttons that much but nice to know if I need to, i could add their stalk.

Getting impatient now though! Hopefully only another 4 weeks at most. Ideally sooner as my S3 insurance runs out on the 23rd
